No New Approvals for Tar Sands Developments

No New Approvals for Tar Sands Developments

Target:
Citizens of the world
We, the undersigned, represent diverse interests and individual priorities to our concern about the future of Alberta. We represent {environmental, social, conservation, labour, health, treaty rights, forestry, land use, humanitarian, water and economic concerns}; but we are united in our concern about the impact that out-of-control development of the oil sands is having on all areas of the province.

We are calling, with one voice, for the Alberta Government to take the first step for a cessation of new oil sands approvals and lease sales. The time is now to stop the uncontrolled oil sands development and deal with the environmental and social concerns that it has created.

Regardless of the reason, there is one thing we all agree on - the first step is to stop adding to the problem.

No new approvals on oil sands development!

There is more to Alberta's existence than the pursuit of profit...lets discover it.

Need time to truly consider if we want to engage in further development. Must conscientiously consider the environmental, social and health impacts development is having on Alberta and Albertans.

Please, make the right choice, do something really important and stop this development now. Thank you for helping.

Saving the environment and planet.

All our attention needs to be focused on alternative energy sources which are renewable to improve all our quality of lives, preserve the environment, and still provide energy for daily use.

The environment is polluted enough as it is. As soon as you step out of your door, you suffocate on the pollution. OIl is not the answer.

We only have one mother earth! We shouldn't be destroying her, we should be preserving her! I thought Humans were suppose to be the most intelligent beings on earth...How disappointing.

I am embarrassed to hear other leaders and experts call us laggards on climate change issues. I want us to lead on global issues like we used to. Wake up Mr Harper. Get yourself to Copenhagen. Ensure Michael Martin does the right job.

It is an inefficient, ugly, destructive, desperate measure to squeeze out the last of our oil reserves and squander it like we have been doing for decades.

The Boreal Forest is at risk here. The tar sands will speed up climate change. For god's sake, the world is in danger if the tar sands are approved.

I am dismayed at the reckless, greed driven destruction of our planet. We need to stop increased exploration of fossil fuel deposits at such high environmental costs.

I would like to see investment in alternative energy. Exploiting the tar sands is a stop gap measure with serious and lasting consequences.

We MUST WAKE UP for the fact that we ARE putting our lives in danger if we don't stop destroying our planet!!!! Economic development is absolutely irrelevant if there's no actual life on Earth to benefit from it. Shouldn't this be obvious?

The Tar sands project are an ecological disaster and an international disgrace for Canada. We need to be leaders in climate change reversal. Please do not let Canada walk down this dangerous road when we have the know how to resources to be environmental leaders in our often short-sighted world!

I care about the health of all humans, and the health of the planet. We cannot continue on this path of senseless destruction for the sake of profits. If this continues, you will lose my confidence.

I have read about the so-called reclamation ponds and the toxicity of them. I think we need to reduce our consumption before we start taking more and more.

Alberta government must not put through no new approvals or tar sandsd development. There must be concern for the envioment and the negative side effects from the tar sands

Enviromental, social, conservation, labour, health, treaty rights, forestry, land use, humanitarian, water and economic concerns

I realize how dependent our society is on oil, but we're being irresponsible by continuing to develop new oil projects when the opportunity to invest in cleaner energy, clearly better for our planet and all of the life on it, is at our fingertips.

The tar sands are disgusting. The processes that go into refining the oil we get from the tar sands is wasteful and detrimental to the environment. Wake up Alberta, the tar sands have no place in a greener, better, more responsible future.

I WAS EMBARRASSED TO ADMIT TO BEING A CANADIAN CITIZEN WHEN THIS SUBJECT WAS DISCUSSED AT MY UNIVERSITY.

I WOULD MUCH PREFER TO HAVE BEEN PROUD, WHICH I WAS WHEN I FIRST BECAME A CANADIAN CITIZEN 25 YEARS AGO. VERY PROUD.

It saddens me that our government seems more invested in dirty oil than in its own citizens' futures and rights to a healthy environment.

The effect on wildlife populations and water is so severe..it is criminal that the companies are allowed to get away with any of it. How do people turn their backs on such destruction?

Until the technology is available that will allow the extraction of the oil from the sand without the huge amount of water necessary, and without toxic ponds being created, I believe that these projects should be stopped altogether.

The oil will remain in the ground; it has been 500 million years in the making and it is not going anywhere. It only benefits the people associated with the oil sand to prolong its extraction. As the price of oil rises (due to the impending shortfall of world supplies)Canada and the oil companies involved will be happy to have the increased revenue. We should take note not to follow the foolhardy who squander their riches.
