No New Cars

WE, the undersigned firmly believe and support the following:
That the U.S. Auto Industry has blatantly ignored the escalating cost of fossil fuel and diminishing availability of oil in this country and throughout the world.
That the United States driving public demands automobiles powered by readily available, affordable and realistic alternative fuels immediately.
That in an effort to demonstrate its resolve the undersigned driving public pledges the following:
1.) That I will not buy another new (recently manufactured/first-time owned) automobile after the year 2009.
2.) That if I should require a replacement automobile, I will buy a previously owned (used) automobile exclusively.
3.) That I will continue to purchase only previously owned (used) automobiles exclusively until the Auto Industry manufactures automobiles that run on reliable, readily available and affordable alternative fuels.
4.) That at such a time when the Auto Industry manufacturers provide such automobiles for sale, I will resume buying new technology automobiles at a time I deem it appropriate and affordable.
5.) That by signing this pledge I am helping to shape America's auto industry future, diminish America's dependency on fossil fuels and helping the environment by reducing the use of fossil fuels and the exploration for fossil fuels both in the United States and abroad.

While it%u2019s a fact that the U.S. Auto Industry is suffering due to slumping sales of automobiles in America, it is undeniable that much of its woes have been brought about by its failure to understand the American Public and our rapidly changing automobile needs. Yet no action on the part of the auto industry suggests they have gotten the message regarding our new automobile paradigm. Once the current economic slump has ended, it may well be back to business as usual for American Automobile Manufacturers.
As a result it is necessary for the American Public to drive home its resolve to expedite a major shift in the Auto Industry%u2019s thinking. As a result, the following petition will serve to shape Detroit%u2019s move to vigorously develop automobiles operating on alternative fuel sources.
Please read this petition and if you agree and will pledge to participate in NO NEW CARS, we can be a force in shaping America%u2019s automobile future.
By signing this pledge you can help shape America%u2019s auto industry future, diminish America%u2019s dependency on fossil fuels and help the environment by reducing the use of fossil fuel hydrocarbons and the exploration for fossil fuels both in the United States and abroad.
