No Sexual Displays on Vehicles

Dear City Council, Mayor, and Residence of Abilene,

I am writing this as a petition against sexual displays such as bumper stickers, trailer hitches, and lettering on vehicles in our city picturing testis, male genitalia, and other sexual remarks and references.

Just today I was unwillingly exposed to a truck that had the wording "It takes big (a drawing of male genitalia) to drive a truck like this" while pumping gas.  I was completely disgusted and offended at such a perverted remark being displayed for everyone, even children, to see.

My husband and I are just about to have our first child and all I can think about is her and many other innocent children who will not be able to understand these sexual demonstrations and be unwillingly exposed to these things.

I do not believe bumper stickers, genital hitches or perverted sexual sayings should be legal.  It is not cute, funny, or amusing to see these things around me.  Our country deals with enough sexual offenders, rapes, and children getting pregnant and the only people who are responsible for this is ourselves.  Why do we walk around dumbfounded and shocked when we hear of terrible things happening like these things?  We should close our mouths and realize that we are doing these things by allowing and promoting sexual sin as though it is comical.

If you are willing to say this is not something we can change or do anything about, I request you consider perhaps an example:  Would it be ok to call children to a school assembly and dangle a fake pair of balls in front of them?  I would be astonished if anyone would reply that this would not bother them.  Then, if this would be completely illegal and terribly scarring for children, (consult a psychologist for verification), why don't we recognize that the same thing happens with sexual displays on people's cars?  Is it because it is their property?  No.  Not so.  They are driving around children all the time.  So if they can assure they will not expose their crude perversion around MY child, then they can make their own decision for how "cool" they want to be.  But I live in the same city as they do as well as hundreds of children who will see this and it is not right.

I believe my proposal is sound and truth.  But I know more and more it is getting harder for truth to prevail.  I ask for you to stand up for righteousness and make a choice that will bless Abilene and keep out city a better place.  I do not see any reason why this would not be recognized as a good thing for our city and world.
