I believe that non-violent federal offenders should be eligible for parole and/or early release. State prisons have already begun releasing prisoners due to overcrowding, and not all of them were non-violent offenders. Help to regulate the flow in federal prisons. I have personally been to Ft. Worth's Federal Medical Center where the majority of prisoners there are elderly, sick women who committed crimes such as computer fraud crimes, drug related crimes, identity fraud, and postal crimes. Federal prisons are just as overcrowded as state prisons. Balance and moderation is beneficial in all areas of life.

We, the undersigned, urge Congress to take a serious look at our prison systems and the way they work. State prisons, which hold murderers, rapists, and molestors, are allowing prisoners early release due to severe overcrowding, however, Federal prisons are not being included, and they are just as overcrowded as State prisons. If not, more so.
Please, find a way to revise our prison systems to help non-violent Federal offenders a chance at reform and freedom. Drug convictions can go to rehab, identity thieves can go to therapy, and computer frauds can go to workshops to better themselves. If we're really going to help reform peoples lives, we need to give them a chance to reform it, rather than waste the tax-payer's dollars.
I thank you for taking the time out of your day to consider our opinion.

It is time that we bring JUSTICE to all inmates! Federal inmates already have mandatory minimum sentences which are more severe than state sentences for the same crime. Lets make things equal and fair.

I hope this petition continues to spread and evolve into something bigger. Drug offenders and offenders on conspiracy charges should be considered for parole as well.

I think to get convicted for being working for someone doing something illegal is not fare! People non-violent deserve to have a second change, home confiment or something like that to give them the opportunity to prove they are not that monsters that they show in the court room!

I have a sister in Raleigh State prison, and a Goddaughter in Federal Prison. Both are nonviolent crimes, and first time offenders. My sister, selling pills to keep up her cocaine habit, in which she had been on drugs ever since she was 13 years old because of musclar distrophey and was addicted to pain pills then. She has already spent 14 months of her 2 year sentence. She has a lot of health issues and is not getting the proper care she needs! She and I both am glad that prison was her intervention, and now are glad she got the help for the additions she had. But she derseves to have an early release especially so she can get the medical help at home she needs.
My Goddaughter came from a system that let her down to begin with. She saw her mother murdered by her father and never got the help she needed. She was passed around from family members on drugs to foster care at the age of 9. She had learned at an early age to raise herself, from being raped, to being abused, to selling drugs. She is 23 now with a 5yr. sentence, with 2 small girls, that need her! They both have a heart of gold, and deserve a second chance. Thank you for any help.

Has our Congress gone mad? Drunk with power, they penalize even first-time offenders with prison, and in so doing they Ruin the lives of the offender and those who depend on him/her. Where there should be compassion and reason and if neccessary, counseling, instead citizens are being hauled off to prison. Even more pitiful, thousands upon thosands of these offenders could have lived productive lives under simple house arrest. Paying taxes, mortgages, raising their children, and being a benefit to society. Instead they're behind cold prison walls, a benefit to no one.

I feel like the non-violent offenders needs to be released on parole, and keep the baby killers in for years, and years. if they mess up keep them, but the low offenders should get a second chance

My disabled husband who has brain damage, nerve damage, a pain disorder, and a broken vertabrae in his neck is in a federal prison with convicts who are serving life sentences, rapists, murders, child molesters - you name it. His crime is having guns in our home for protection. Being a felon from a nonviolent crime over 15 years ago he was discovered when his only sister turned him in to keep herself out of trouble. He no longer receives his pain medicine, acupuncture, or visits to the neuropsychologist. What would be so wrong about giving a man like this house arrest so he can receive the specialty care that he needs at our family's expense? I am now a single Mom raising 2 kids on my own with no financial support. His workers compensation was stopped because he is incarcerated and he is ineligible for social security to be paid to his dependents because of the felony conviction. This is such a great injustice when I see violent offenders get off with probation. Something needs to be done. If you are having any doubts adding your signature to this petition, please think again.

I fully agree that non-viloent offenders should be eligible of early release and or parole! We have offenders sitting in jails all across the United States housed with inmates that do deserve to be where they are for the crimes that they have commited but some of those inmates do not care that they are in jail. So that is putting simple offenders life in japerody and also these inmates provoke the simple offeners into getting themselves and to trouble or possibly indangering the life of these inmates! I just want everyone who has some interest in these new laws to take the time and fill this petition and make a voice of the inmates that are beinging poorly treated and neglected in our Prison Facilites across the United States.

I agree that first time non violent offenders and also ones with medical conditions should be eligable for at least home confinement I read this story of how this man, a biochemist, who had Parkinsons Disease, went to his exwife's garage to get some of his belongings and she had him arrested. He was sentenced to prison and died there because he wasn't given his medication. They should stop the overcrowding in prisons and pass new laws.

There are people being held in prisons that have not commited a crime where it involed anyone but themselves nor was anyone being threatened. In my husband's case they supposidly found a gun in the vehicle they searched illegally. We have 7 children and they youngest is 2 in which I hate for the kids to see their dad this way. And people wonder why kids dont always have their fathers around and the prison system is why. I can understand if you commited a violent crime you deserve to do the time. One thing that makes me sick is that Rapper TI only has to serve a year and a day for a room full of guns and my husband is going to have to serve 3-4 years for one, and he has less offenses than him.....now tell me does that make since?

My fiance is a non-violent offender and I would love to see him come home real soon. Maybe even on his first parole date. He has a little girl who has been ill in the past and he has not been able to hold his daughter withouth protective walls around him. I know what he did was wrong BUT he has learned from them and he doing everything he can to come home to us. Please take these words into consideration and let them come home!

My husband is doing LIFE for a Conspiracy charge. He didn't commit the crime and flat out refused to go along with it in front of the victim and was still sentenced to LIFE. I'm hoping this petition will get things rolling in the Federal system. Let's not give up people! Prisons waste time, money and lives. Let's do our part to help reform the system.
