Can Obama Change?

Will Barack Obama and his democrats really facilitate %u201Chope%u201D and %u201CChange%u201D? Or will it be more of the same? It is hoped that Obama will not bow to the stagnant, conservative, racist, American thought that has run the country since inception, in attempts now to appease the %u2018rednecks%u2019 that got their country in this big, greedy, murdering mess. Important and crucial issues must be exposed. Instead of complaining about the little things, it is now time for the big issues to be addressed.

What Barack Obama, his administration, and the American people need to do is honor Article VI of the U.S. Constitution, which states, %u201CTreaties made with Indian Nations shall be the supreme law of the land%u2026with the judges in every state bound thereby.%u201D The government must begin to finally honor %u201CSupreme Law%u201D Treaties with Indigenous Red %u201CIndian%u201D Nations and Peoples.

Obama also needs to close Guantanamo %u201CGitmo%u201D Bay and release the hostages illegally held there by Bush and his cronies like Exxon Mobil, Halliburton, and too many American people, who, by their silence condoned this behavior. This presidential policy and citizenry silence led to the death of nearly 5,000 Americans %u2013 not to mention the nearly one million Iraqi families of women and children that have since died because of the Bush/Halliburton action.

Great Indigenous people of the past - real leaders such as  Geronimo, Sitting Bull, and Crazy Horse were also held %u2013 or attempted to be detained,  in these same types of %u201CGitmo%u2019s%u201D as the young %u201CAmerica%u201D plundered forward to steal and occupy Indigenous gold, timber, water, and lands. Over $9 Trillion dollars worth of the Lakota%u2019s Black Hills gold currently sits as %u201Cstolen property%u201D in Fort Knox, Kentucky without one penny afforded to the rightful owners.

Obama needs to see that his government stop giving 40 billion per year in u.s. tax dollars to the concocted state of %u201CIsrael%u201D that was created in 1948 so that the United States and England could have a base in the Mideast for which to steal Arab oil.

The occupiers of the nation of Palestine get all this tax money while the u.s. only %u2018gives%u2019 2 billion to American Indians each year. Barack must prevent Hillary Clinton from turning the Indian Health Service (I.H.S.) into Public Health Service (P.H.S.) like she tried to do when Clinton-Lewinsky ruled the white house.

Most importantly, Obama has to understand that all Indigenous Red Nations were not %u201Cwiped out%u201D or %u201Cconquered%u201D (we are still here!) during the world%u2019s largest, quickest, and deadliest %u2018holocaust%u2019 the world has ever been prevented from seeing. The new president must see to it that the Ho-Chunk and all other Indigenous Red Nations have a full membership, voting, and %u201Cveto-powering%u201D seat in the United Nations, which itself is located on Red Man%u2019s soil in New York City. The Ho-Chunk need to be represented by themselves (with both a female and male representative) as the true nation of people that they are %u2013 a nation with their own language, land, and Way of Life. Of all the races of humankind, the white, black, brown, and yellow, only the Red Race is denied their place at the community of world%u2019s nations. This genocide must stop with Obama.

And finally, Obama and his democrats need to immediately pardon American Indian Movement (AIM) member, Leonard Peltier. Peltier is a prisoner of an undeclared war that the government has waged for 517 years to get %u201CIndians%u2019 stuff.%u201D Without his freedom %u2013 without the Red Man%u2019s freedom %u2013 no one in this land will ever be free.

Leonard was defending Lakota %u201CSioux%u201D elders on the Pine Ridge Reservation in 1975 from u.s. government %u201Cpuppets%u201D running the tribal council. Two plain-clothed FBI agents in an unmarked vehicle came onto the elder%u2019s property firing their weapons. Peltier, the family, relatives and friends camped there returned fire under basic rules of %u201Cself-defense.%u201D However, Leonard was wrongfully convicted as the racist judge denied Peltier his right to use self-defense as his %u2018defense%u2019. Leonard Peltier has been in prison ever since %u2013 over 33 years.

Make sure Obama does what is right and not what is thought to be %u201Cpolitically correct%u201D!

I am an Indigenous woman, mother, and wife in the United States. This petition has a simple message; stop breaking the laws of the constitution. Barak Obama said today that today is the day that "we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn-out dogmas that for far too long have strangled our politics". Well now is your time to correct those that have been wronged. Free Leonard Peltier and show us that you can be what we all know you can be. You have the power now to rise above and see that we haven't just earned our rights to be treated equal but that we deserve all that has been pulled from our hands. The United Nations would look that much nicer with some Red mixed in.

We survived holocaust, we survived genocide, please stand up for indigenous peoples rights and native political prisoners. We're watching you to see if you will start with treaty obligations. You have no idea the affect it will have in the world. All indigneous people are looking to you with watchful eyes.

The treaties with the Indians should have been kept years ago and our nation needs to make it right with them now. Leonard Peltier has been in prison far too long. Other people have gotten less time and they were guilty. There is no hard evidence against Leonard.

I agree it is time that Leonard Peltier be finally released from his wrongful imprisonment for the last 33 years. It is time that the American government finally adhere to the treaties and agreements that where signed with the Indians.
