We, the undersigned, urge the Los Angeles City Council to adopt Jamiel's Law, as set forth at JamielsLaw.com. Neither Los Angeles nor any other city should be a "sanctuary city" for gangs. City Council should accordingly require the Mayor and Police Chief to investigate, arrest and deport gang members who are in our country illegally BEFORE they commit murder or other crimes, rather than waiting until afterwards.

Jamiels Law should be Country Wide! Why stop in LA - we don't have special order 40 where I live, but we definately have gang problems and for certain illegal aliens that are part of them.

Having heard this story as far away from LA as Omaha, NE, it is heartwrenching to know this could have been prevented had LA not been a sanctuary city and this low-life could have been deported out of the country. Jamiel had the entire world ahead of him, and now nothing. Things like this don't have to happen if we use common sense!

My parents waited for years in the early 70's to immigrate to the US - LEGALLY. Why did we wait so long? We should have just came here ILLEGALLY and cut in line in front of everyone else who were here legally. The end result would have been the same, because it appears to me now the US government is ready to give a free "pass" for all illegals. This country has always represented land of opportunity, justice, equal rights, religious freedom and free speech to the rest of the world. If we continue to allow uncontrolled illegal immigration into this country, we will eventually end up being just another third world country, especially here in California. For example: education continues to decline, look at the high school drop out rate. Why? We don't demand enough from our kids - citizens and/or immigrants alike. We continue to cater to their native languages. California DMV gives the writing test in over 8 languages???? What's that about? When I came to this country at 8 years of age, no one spoke to me in anything but ENGLISH. I sure picked up English in a hurry. Ethnically, I am Chinese, my kids are Chinese, that won't change. But I'm an American, and so are my kids. The English language binds us all together, and makes us into one nation. Wake up Americans, we need to unite and stand our ground: and force (yes, force) the people who come to this country to speak English, and become a good US citizens. Abide by OUR laws, don't give them a "pass". That is after all why they came here for isn't it? To become a US citizen? To be integrated into the American Experience? Otherwise, GO HOME!!! What happened to Jamiel Shaw, III is simply gross. I see it as a metaphor for what is happening to our great society if we don't do something about it now. A child of the third world, comes to the US illegally, and kills our future, our legacy. Thank you Special Order 40!! Thanks

The Mayor, Police Chief and District Attorney's Office are so worried about offending the Latino community (and losing votes!) by enforcing ANY kind of anti-illegal immigration policy that they put the entire city population at risk. Let's pass this and cut the political crap!

To Jamiel Sr and mom, I can't even imagine what you're going through, all I can say is be strong and remain hopeful. It's time to vote Mayor Villar, Chief Bratton and any other politician who supports Special order #40 out of office. Please call your local representative and find out what their position is on this issue.

The loss of such a fine young man in the prime of his life is a shame. When it could have been prevented, it is a tragedy. As the elected representatives of the residents of the City of Los Angeles, I urge you to adopt Jamiels Law. There is no reason that honest legal residents of the City of Los Angeles and the United States should have to fear violent crime perpetrated upon them by individuals who have broken the law by entering the country illegally. I have 2 small children and the thought of losing them to a random act of violence is the greatest fear I face. Please keep this tragedy from happening to another family in Los Angeles. We need to demand answers now. Why is the federal government and local officials allowing the country to be overrun by illegal immigrants, many of whom are criminal elements? Is it impotence, incompetence or complicity? And why do we not demand an answer. Is the will of the people being subverted to satisfy corporate and political might? I live in the area where Jamiel lived and have a young teenage son and it has left a sorrowful hole in our community. Protect the right people. A criminal is a crimanal regardless of their status.We shouldn't have to support non-legal criminal citizens on our tax dollars. I'll be glad when the next city elections are held for we will have our voices heard.

To suggest that it is a crime to find out if a "GANG MEMBER" or "CRIMINAL" is ILLEGAL is absolutley LUDACRIS! LA is a sanctuary for ILLEGAL immigrants. Being a second generation immigrant myself, I find it offensive that immigrants feel like they can come to this country ILLEGALLY and then complain about things! My family had to wait years and years to come to this country. Once my family arrived, they worked hard and became proud citizens of the USA. They were proud to feel part of a great nation. I find it ironic that the Los Angeles City Council and LAPD Chief Daryl Gates enacted Special Order 40 during the time when a blue-ribbon commission assembled by President Jimmy Carter was concluding that illegal immigration was bad for our nation. And now it seems that the chickens have come home to roost in a way that wasn't anticipated by anyone back in 1979. As a Catholic, I have compassion for illegal immigrants that are seeking escape from oppression and/or opportunity for greater quality of life...but allowing immigrants to settle here illegally is not a good solution to their plight. We've already had the long-standing problem of children of impoverished Hispanic families (among others) becoming legal-resident gang members; now we have illegal-resident Hispanic families unwittingly duplicating the formula and compounding the problem ad nauseam! If Special Order 40 isn't going to be repealed (and it should be), at least Jamiel's law is needed to enable the Los Angeles Police Department to remove these foreign-born domestic terrorists.
