OPERATION GHOST IN THE DARKNESS
Whats that Smell?? That seems to be a common conversation started here in Sylacauga.....The answer is a unbelievable one...The Smell is coming from the Old Avondale Mill Treatment Plant or also Known as Reed....On Numerous ocasions Veolia Environmental Services has sent Tankers, Sometimes up to 15, each carrying 5,000 of Brine Wastewater from the Anniston Army Depot are coming and dumping this Supposide Non-Hazardous Chemical....Then The Sylacauga Utility board is putting this is the City's Waste Treatment Plant...Sound Unbelievable...Well Believe it and whats worse is Our Dear Mayor Made the decision to let them do this...Not even the Members of the City Council was told until it was already decided...When One of the City Council Members Did FIND out and contacted the mayor about the situation...He was basically told that he was making a big deal out of nothing...A local newspaper has bad mouthed this council member as well...This has been going on for some time now...Now this is where my concern comes...Since January the smell has been horrible for several days at a time...It normally starts at night ( I was told this is when the dumping starts) The smell lingers for sometime...Each time it even smells different...My Family and other individuals have experienced severe headaches, upper respitory infections, nausea, burning of the eyes and throat, strange illnesses, bad taste, foul odors in our cars and homes, I have actually had three family pets pass away not long after the smell was strongest...Coincidence...You Tell me...Since 9/11 The United States Issued a War on Terror and issued severe penalties To ANYONE knowingly or unknowingly committing a terrorist Act...Companies have been required to enforce strong tracking systems to show where their products came from and everything down to how it was shipped...Consumers have a "Right To Know" Act that products us if we was to suffer from a companies neglect...And Yet our Dear Mayor took it upon himself to allow this to take place...Now He lives far enough away he dont have to suffer from this...If it is not a health concern, then I say We should have him get a little tent and camp out beside the Treatment Plant when They are dumping this, and to make it even better, Have him try to eat supper as well...Of course he isnt gonna do this, because, as he said, The wastewater is "Non-Hazardous"....Of course he has papers saying its suppose to be safe, but in those same papers there are circumstances where it CAN be hazardous.....Let me take a little trip to past, During The Vietnam War, The United states Goverment released a chemical that was suppose to kill off the vegetation to give us a little boost...It was suppose to be harmless to us...The chemical was Agent Orange and we NOW know it was harmful...Or how about asbestos...How many people do you know suffering from the effects of it? There was a huge recall on toys from China because of lead in the paint...Peanut butter has even killed people...SO why should we believe chemicals coming from the Army Depot, Treated or Not, Have NO dangers associated with them? There is something going on and its time we stand up and say "We Arent Gonna take it ANY More". We pay taxes, We are made to keep our grass cut, our yards clean, We have to get permits to do certain work in the yards WE Are paying for....SO WHAT RIGHT DO THEY HAVE TO PUT THIS ODOR INTO OUR AIR??? I am trying to get at least 100 signatures, whether you live close enough to smell it or not....Sylacauga is OUR Town, Its our Childrens Town, SO let Anniston Deal with their own "Non-Hazardous" Chemicals....So just stop and look around, Think about the last time you got sick, Could it have been from the chemicals? Also anyone that has been having any of the symptoms, animals sick or dying, lingering odors in your car or homes, contact me, Give me your Information..I Promise you the ball is rolling, Its up to YOU to make a stand and make sure we put a end to this nonsense.....

I've been having allergic ractions for no reason this has never happened before. I had to go to the E.R. The smell is awful! It burns your nose, throat.
Selling out the health of your common citizens is not the way to fatten your wallet. IF you kill off your tax payers then who will fund your little podunk hick entertainments? IF you would allow REAL businesses to come to this town then you would not have to risk yours and your citizens health for the almighty dollar. Of course it just goes to show how small minds always focus on the here and now instead of the bigger picture of tomorrow. Maybe the EPA should investigate the matter and see if it is really harmless. Does the word RE-ELECT mean anything to you MAYOR? I hope the chump change you are receiving will carry you through when election time rolls back around.

my son has been sick off and on, my wife feels bad all the time(she stays at home and takes care of the house). my mother in law has been keeping migrains lately and i've even been sick twice in the last few months and i never get sick(maybe once every 5 years or so). our house plain stinks in the morning you have to open up the doors after it clears outside to air out the inside. something definitly needs to be done before someone is seriously hurt from this(escalation).
And why is this waste going into the city's treatment plant? There should be a waste treatment plant in Anniston!
That Smell Is Killing Me.I Drove A Truck For 20 Years And Not Hauled Any Thing That Smells Like That.I Hauled Some Chem. To Bessemers Water Treatment Plant That Smells A Lot Like HYDROCHLORIC Acid.Its A Killer.SOMEBODY IS LYING IF THEY SAY ITS NOT DEADLY.So Don't Tell Me Its Not Harmful.
Why are they dumping waste in the middle of a highly populated area?? Not to mention we don't even know what the waste is. The air we breathe is poluted enough. Stop dumping on Sylacauga.
I live in on Dairyland Road. The smell is horrible, disgusting, and outrageous!!!!!!!!!! I am a citizen and have RIGHTS!!! These rights include not invading my privacy, home, and personal space; not including harmful smells exuding from 1/2 mile from my home. This is embarrassing to my family. I hate it, when will it end and what actions will I have to take to resolve this issue?? I will do what is needed to stop this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In all due respect, mayor Wright, we the residents of Sylacauga have a right to open our windows in our homes and vehicles or step outside and breathe fresh air. This smell is overwhelming and cannot possibly be healthy to ingest. please, reconsider this action of wastewater dumping. and if not please relocate you and your family to my neck of the woods and enjoy the smell with me and my family.
Although I do not live in the city limits, my brother does play Cal Ripken baseball and we are out at the complex 2 or 3 nights a week. For those who don't know the complex is not even a mile away from the treatment plant We have to drive through that smell almost everytime he has a game. It is very bad. Not only do all the people from Sylacauga have to tolerate that horrible smell but also anyone who is coming from out of town to the games. What does it say about Sylacauga to have the smell lingering around? I know that if I was looking for a place to live and start a family I would NEVER decide to live anywhere near a city that is allowing something like this to happen. Our city council and mayor need to resolve this problem! They are the ones who allowed this to happen. Truthfully there is little the mayor can okay without the city councils approval. They knew but now because something is being said about the problem they are "playing" like they had no idea about any of this. Just fix the problem.
We are outside of the strongest area of the scent, but I smell it when I drive to downtown...I agree that if the smell went to the more prominent areas of town that it would have been taken care of long ago. By the way how much profit is made by the dumping and by whom? My daughter has a blister in her nose and my son is having sinus problems...I have been having headaches(I'm not a headache person) Coincidence? I can't imagine what it's like for the people who breathe the stench day in and out. Give us some answers Mr. Sam.
Today is the 4th Straight day of a continous eposide with the overpowering odor..I have been to the emergency room because I had difficulty breathing and chest pains...I have had a severe migrain for 4 days..The doctor took me out of work for a couple of

On several occasions I have been unable to eat out at resutrants, including Marble City Grill, due to the awful odor. Who wants to eat with that awful smell?
Need to rename this city to Sewer City, cause there is nothing beautiful about a smelly and ugly city
