Dear Oprah, This petition is dedicated to the angels we have learned to call our pets. Each year, in this country alone, millions of healthy, adoptable cats and dogs are killed because there are not enough homes for them all. There are too many companion animals competing for not enough good homes. The overpopulation of pets has become throwaway items to be cuddled when cute and abandoned when inconvenient. Our newspapers and the internet have tons of new puppies and kittens for sale every week. The overpopulation is getting worse and worse. The statistics from the Humane Society is that one female dog and her offspring can give birth to 67,000 puppies. In seven years, one cat and her young can produce 420,000 kittens. You have made a difference in so many peoples lives. You have helped people make great accomplishments. You can help change the difference in the pet overpopulation and more! We are asking you to do, at least, a couple shows a year on educating the world about pets. Scratch that, more shows on educating the world about the pets in our society. Help educate people the GOOD NEWS about our shelters and the wonderful programs that they have to offer the public. Why animals come to the shelters. The kinds of animals that are available for a loving family to adopt into their hearts and homes. Help break the myth and misunderstanding about our animal shelters. Show some wonderful animals who do come from these places and what they are doing today. Have a pet adoption on your show. Help educate people about all the different animal rescue groups and what they have to offer. Help educate the public why you should not advertise PETS FOR FREE! Help educate the public on the services available to help pet owners overcome their pet%u2019s problems. Help educate the public on the importance of SPAYING & NEUTERING our pets. Help educate the public about PUPPY MILLS! Where that puppy in the window probably came from and how their parents are treated. Why they should ADOPT A PET and not buy the puppy in the window. Please help the animals! They have no voice, but you do. Let the animals become part of your angel network! I am signing this because I think it is our duty to the animals. I have gotten all my animals either free or through a shelter. I also think it is important for kids to understand that not all animals get good homes. Even though they ALL deserve one.People who breed just to make money make my blood boil. And invent even more breeds make me sick. My shelter babes met and mean the world to me. We're on our third dog from a shelter and have all been great family members. Wouldn't trade any of them for any riches in the world!!!!!!

To include help for people who need companion animals in their life to fight depression like me or anxiety disorder and my other physical impairments that my dog makes me have to get out of bed to deal with.We need financial help! Presciptions, utilities, car payments, all those things cost but so does our mental well being that animals give to us. I walk him everyday not only for him but for me. In between dogs I didn't walk or talk to people in the neighborhood. I just stayed indoors and suffered in silence. Now that I have clemmy I have to get off my ass and get up regardless how I feel. Thank God for animal shelters. I wish they were all no kill but sadly not isn't the reality. And for the people that work those shelters 3 cheers for you!!!! I only wish veterinarians would realize how much we want to spend on our pets we just don't have it. My vet will work with us to a point but,.,,, Can't blame him but the cost is so high for all that animal gives back. I'd pay anything if only I had it. I'd love to add a photo of clemmy but everyone i've tried is too big to include. It must be because he has a huge personality!!!

Dear Oprah- I agree the impact from your show might make people think twice about getting an animal they can't keep or better yet for the horrible people out there that do not value an animals life. I recently had to take my 12 year old family pet to our local shelter to be put down because he was ill. I later found out by reading online from people that work at these shelters that my family pet would end up in dog food because there are no regulations on pet food or in the bottom of a pit with thousands of other animals. It just breaks my heart to think about it. Please do the show!!!!!!!

Oprah can you take a walk through Chicago Animal Control. And not just the adoption center.In the back, behind the doors that the general public is not allowed.I think that one walk through there seeing what is happening, talking to employees about what is going on there, would be a true eye opener to Chicago and the rest of the world. You have the power to influence the world, a show on this could educate and generate millions of great ideas from the public on how to make a change.

Three weeks ago, a fellow City Council representative brought up the problem of feral cat overpopulation. His solution? To shoot them - because they have fleas and can become rabid. I was horrified and spoke up for getting out funds for spaying and neutering. A citizen in Councilman Williams ward was so outraged that he created a YouTube video which is now showcased on the Alley Cat Allies website. Several people suggested contacting a group with expertise in dealing with feral cat populations and Alley Cat Allies was suggested. They have been wonderful, sending me brochures and other educational items to hand out at the next City Council meeting on Nov. 2, 2009. A local Trap-Neuter-Return organizaton, PCAWL, is planning a presentation next Monday. I hope to bring about an alliance between the City of Rolla, PCAWL, and the surrounding Phelps County to bring awareness to how easy it is to create humane solutions for our furry neighbors. A national spotlight on the Feral Cat issue would help to bring awareness of both the problem and the solution. Please, Oprah, invite Alley Cat Allies to your show and open that door wide. I work at a Veterinary Hospital and I see many dogs that are adopted from shelters and those dogs are always very loyal to their owners. They know that they were rescued from a cage and worse, death. Too many people are not aware of how many pets are euthanized each year not because of health problems but because they cannot find a home.

I think everyone should understand that spaying/neutering your pet is a good way to prevent health problems when they become older.

I am signing this petition because I see all the lonely lost pets or all the pets that are homeless in shelters and on petfinder who need homes. There are many who think they are doing good by taking in an animal, but if they do not spay or nuter them they get over populated in the area and then others get the wrong idea about the pets. The pets get sick and spread sickness to other animals. There are some who look for pure breeds and they need to understand there are many purebreeds out there that need homes and are in the shelters waiting to be loved too. Breeding is not bad, it is only bad if it is not controled and there is no homes for the animal.

I work for a petfood manufacturer and I see how many abandoned animals first hand and the way they economy is.........their pets are being left behind.

I own 2 italian greyhounds- I am sure they are from puppy mills- it is a horrible existence for any animal and i can't bear to think of all of the animals that have suffered such a horrible life- it must end!
