Our children deserve proper nutrition at School!

Everyday our children eat in our school cafeteria and everyday they eat unbalanced, overly processed and fried foods.  Children and Teachers with diabetes have nowhere to turn and are punished by having to eat foods that are detrimental to their health...unless they don't eat at all.    Unfortunately, school districts will tell you that the menus meet state guidelines and the issue comes to a hault.  We need to take action for our students and childrens' sake.  Some families can't afford for their children to take a lunch to school everyday.  If our children were receiving quality nutrition, even if more preparation was needed, our students test scores would be higher, they could adequately concentrate, and our nation wouldn't be failing academically.  Let's make a positive change and teach, as well as learn, how to eat healthy, well-balanced meals....for everyones' sake.

We the undersigned urge the Kentucky Board of Education to implement proper nutrition in our schools.  Our goal is to show our children that we value their health as well as their academic education.  We understand that healthier foods are more costly and need more preperation, but we feel this is only a small price to pay for our children.  In time, our test scores will rise and behavior problems will fall and more students will be alert and want to learn.  As a community, we feel our choices in our childrens' nutrition at school will cause them to follow our lead in the outside world.  Eating balanced meals at school will help our children make healthier choices at home and will eventually make them healthier individuals.
