Our Humble Request

Target:
Accomplishments at Osceola High School
As fellow teachers, students, and parents of Osceola High School we have witnessed remarkable gains in the areas of writing, reading, and math skills.  We all are aware that the FCAT drives how students are taught.  For the past several years we have improved our scores and are anticipating moving to a B status with this years results.  Through exceptional leadership we have not only improved our teachers and students intellectual needs we have enhanced their quality of life.  Our students empowered to excell in and out of school through the direction of our Principal, Mr. Paradiso.  With the absence of such great leadership there will be an enormous deficit for our teachers and students at Osceola High School.  Our track record stands for itself.  We have excelled academically-33 students graduated this year with an AA degree from Valencia as well as their high school diploma.  Our choral, band, ROTC, and athletics has excelled beyond their expectations.  We are the first school in Osceola County and in the state of Florida where one of the automotive student has passed the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) National Exam.  These are a few of the accolades that the students and teachers have accomplished while being under Mr. Paradiso's leadership.

As a teacher at Osceola High School and a parent of a current OHS student, I was greatly disheartened to hear that Dr. Paradiso was retiring. I have never been to a high school where the students applaud the principal when he stands before them to give them instructions, directions, scold them, praise them, etc. Every time this man stands in front of the student body, they students give him their utmost respect and applaud him. This "retirement" has caused great concern among the students at OHS. We, as parents, staff, students, and community members, hope that this injustice will be rectified before the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year.

Mr. Paradiso has been and always will be an important part of who I am. He was always there to listen whenever there was a problem. When I ran into him at the Dallas airport many years ago, he knew who I was, even though I was only one among hundreds of his students. I still visit the school on occasion as part of my job and he still asks how I am. He will be greatly missed if he is no longer with Osceola High School.

There's more to education than standardized test results. Standardized tests are an accurate measure of educational policy, not of individual school performance.
