God love the Supernanny! She has brought a temporary calm to many American families. Gliding in on her broom to deliver copious amounts of British charm and disciplined doses of the naughty mat.

But is her strict regimen of punishments and rewards a true recipe for family success?

Unfortunately, we think not and parents are asking for better alternatives! From Blogger ID NJohn June18 comment on blog post School 'no place' Supernanny techniques

"Thanks for your blog post. This kind of information is great for a new parent like me who is trying to reconcile these (mainly) two powerful views. It's hard to beat the sensory evidence (however edited it may be) of supernanny though. I wish there were a show with maybe an emotionally intelligent supernanny??" -NJohn

Many of today's reality based parenting shows try and reach out with an authoritative hand to the scores of desperate parents in chaotic households all over America and while we recognize that the aim is high, the target is sadly missed.

The needs of parents have shifted. Consciousness is changing and parents are seeking new ways of interacting with their children.

Though proven to be damaging to a child's emotional well-being, the techniques of the dominant paradigm are still well-entrenched in the minds of today's parents and gobbled up by the TV masses, not for their ability to heal familial angst but for lack of a better alternative.

We deserve a TV show that restores love, respect and problem-solving to the discipline equation and offers parents a chance to connect with and enjoy their children without having to resort to behavior modification or rules like, If you do this then you can have that.

We deserve a show that seeks to replace the old paradigm with a new understanding of children and one that can dramatically affect the relationships within today's families.

We are requesting a show for progressive parents, for families who are looking beyond traditional solutions to our parenting woes.

Stay tuned - and thank you for your support!

We the undersigned believe that respectful parenting produces respectful children. We are asking that the networks listen to our request for a parenting TV show that will promote the emotional intelligence of its viewers and not simply offer crash-and-burn reality drama.

We are requesting a progressive parenting show for conscious parents; a show that moves beyond the behavioral modification techniques of the past and teaches families how to connect and heal instead of trying to control and manipulate.

In a society where both Mom and Dad have to work in order to support their children, I am seeing more and more emotional abuse by parents of their very young and precious children. With all the violence T.V. is showing, even on programs for children, I would think that it would be a moral obligation of our TV networks to find a time slot geared toward assisting parents toward a more positive parenting and to have it at a time when both parents are apt to be home and the children are tucked away in bed. This way the parents can discuss openly their thoughts on how they can make changes to their form of discipline so that they are making a conscious decision to raise healthy children.

This is exactly the kind of TV show we need, and I personally can't wait to see it.

The nanny show doesn't indicate families with traumatized children either. This is what we need!

Our children deserve parenting that is respectful and loving. Shows such as Super Nanny perpetuate the old fear-based parenting information. Parents deserve respectful support that actually heals families, rather than outdated parenting techniques that don't really work long-term.

It is so unfortunate that the only methods of "successful parenting" that are glorified on today's TV shows are those that worry more about behavior modification in the moment, rather than teaching life lessons about respect (for self & others) and personal integrity through modeling and love.
