Pass the Federal Marriage Amendment

  • by: Aaron Peterson
  • recipient: President Barack Obama and the U.S. Congress

Marriage is the union of one man and one woman. This has been the definition of marriage throughout the ages. And the American people agree with this definition. Thirty-one states have put gay marriage on the ballot, and none have passed. In the few states where gay marriage is legal, the courts made the decision, not the people. The American people recognize that marriage is the union of one man and one woman, and the federal government should agree.
Marriage is not only about the union of the man and the woman, but also about the children that rise from that union. Thousands of social science research studies demonstrate that children always do better in every category when raised in the context of a married mother and father. And while a loving and civilized society always comes to the aid of fatherless and motherless families, it never intentionally creates fatherless and motherless families as a matter of law and public policy.
Please ask President Obama and the U.S. Congress to pass the Federal Marriage Amendment and sign it into law. This amendment to the United States Constitution would limit marriage to unions of one man and one woman.
It is time for the federal government to agree with the American people that marriage is and forever will be the union of one man and one woman.

We, the undersigned, wish to draw your attention to the issue of gay marriage in the United States.
The American people do not support gay marriage.
Legalizing gay marriage intentionally creates fatherless and motherless families, which is something that a loving and civilized society should never do.
For these reasons, we ask that you pass the Federal Marriage Amendment and sign it into law. This amendment to the United States Constitution would limit marriage to unions of one man and one woman.
It is time for the federal government to agree with the American people that marriage is and forever will be the union of one man and one woman.
