Petition for Peaceful, Free, and Fair Elections in Zimbabwe: March 29th, 2008

Target:
The International Community

The 1979 Zimbabwe Independence Constitution declares that the "Future and survival of the Republic of Zimbabwe must remain the sacred trust of the people of Zimbabwe." Every six years, the sovereign people of Zimbabwe re-affirm this trust through the democratic electoral process. We recall the Kenyan civil strife triggered by the disputed 2007 December elections, during which 1,500 people perished and more than 600 000 were forced to flee their homes. To prevent a similar or worse predicament in Zimbabwe and to facilitate free and fair elections on the 29th of March 2008, We, the people of Zimbabwe as well as friends of the Republic of Zimbabwe,

Ask the government and the authorities responsible for maintaining law and order to refrain from intimidating and harassing the electorate as they practice their constitutional duty.

Ask that, regardless of the outcome of the March 29 elections, you uphold the rule of law in protecting the children, women and men of Zimbabwe.

Ask that you join us in preventing the possible loss of jobs, property and, most importantly, human life as is usually the case in times of conflict.

Sign this yourself and send to everyone you know so that we can show the government of Zimbabwe that the Zimbabwe Diaspora Community and the rest of the world is committed to the survival of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

Please give your real name and your real state and country location. Let the government of Zimbabwe know that you are asking for free, fair and peaceful elections come March 29th, 2008.

Mugabe's reign of anti-democracy has gone on far too long. The country is in shambles and the only way they can rebuild their nation is by removing Mugabe and ushering in a fair and democratic leader. The leader must rise up and guide the country away from the darkness it is in now.

As we know here in Paraguay, free elections are only the first step. That step is vital in establishing a functioning democracy. I wish all those working for this, God's blessings and grace.
