Life sentence in a glass and concreet prison cell

Petition: Animal neglect in Buenos Aires zoo.

Target:
Ing. Mauricio Macri Buenos Aires Gobierno de la CuidadJefe de Gobierno
Sponsored by:

In November 2008 we traveled in Argentina and visited the Zoo in Buenos Aires.  We were shocked to see the great wild animals normally living in groups - locked up in small solitary cages.

The chimpanzee is the one that we can%u2019t forget.  She is locked in a tiny cement and glass prison, leaning on the glass window with a clear expression of slow death.  She has long given up hope.  She has given up on life.

Chimpanzees have long arms, perfect for hanging around in the trees, where they spend a lot of time in their communities feeding and nesting.  But this one has no trees, no other one to bond with, no space to play in, alive, but given  no right to live her life. In her dip sadness she calls for help.

Chimpanzees are our closest living relatives. We share with them 98.4% of our DNA.

There are somewhere around the world places managing Species Survival Plan.  There are echo-friendly zoos with realistic habitats and open concept zoos.  Zoos with animals trapped behind bars and sad cages should be menageries past. It is clearly visible that animals suffer a life of chronic physical ailments, social deprivation and emotional starvation.  They are robed of their most basic needs like social companionship and adequate space to exercise. They can%u2019t be healthy kept in unnaturally small groups and they don%u2019t exercise.

We urge you to help us fight this case.  Please demand from the mayor of Buenos Aires changes to the way the animals are treated in this zoo.  We ask you from the bottom of our heart to help the suffering chimpanzee.  You can make a difference of life or death to this animal.  All these animas in zoo need your help and your support. Let start the New Year giving hope to those who need it.

Wishing you all the best in the New Year

PRESENTE

Saludos cordiales,

Stan and Zofia Kurylowicz

Thank you for signing our petition. Thank you for sharing our sorrow regarding the regrettable situation of animals at the Buenos Aires Zoo. We hope that your signature on the petition will be only the first step in the action of demanding the necessary changes in the living conditions of animals incarcerated for life. Now we ask you to send a letter written from your heart to the City Government and the mayor, Mr. Macri, asking him for merci for the suffering chimpanzee. We need the involvement of local organizations dedicated to the protection and welfare of animals in Argentina. We ask school principals and teachers to help students of all grades to realize that they have a voice. They are the next generation that will have to fix what our generation has spoiled on this world. Letters from the students addressed to the Mr. Macri and to the media can help to eradicate this barbarism. We need action from tourists visiting Buenos Aires who bring profits to Argentina. The cruelty on display should have negative impact on the economy of Buenos Aires.
We sincerely thank you for your time and attention, and we have faith that each of you will take another step to demand the eradication of the obsolete zoos.

When I went to the Buenos Aires Zoo, I was shocked at the lack of enrichment in the habitats of the animals. I hope this will stop soon.

Keeping these animals beautiful animals in cages for the rest of their live is terrible heart breaking...they have a right to be here just like us..who gives us the right to do what we do to them...Remember a nation is judged by the way they treat their animals. It's all about money..some day the next generation will pay to go to open area's to see the wild life it will be more enjoyable....instead of just looking at them in a cage...what can you learn...try it....great land let them roam free and watch them..people will love to do that and they will be free

animals can be seen in their natural habitat- only if we preserve those habitats- Animals can NOT survive in zoos- as they become defomed and schichophernic.

We saw so many sad animals locked in teeny tiny cages. Cats pacing back and forth in a manner that looked like they had gone crazy. And elephants that were trying so hard, but just couldn't reach the leafy trees overhead. I was saddened by my visit to the zoo in Buenos Aires.
