Currently there's a bill called "Cash for Clunkers" which the government will proposed federal program that would encourage consumers to trade in gas-guzzlers or older carsfor new cars that get better fuel economy, and that new cars are safer then the older cars. the government will pay $2000 dollars to $4000 depending on the fuel economy of the new car compared to the older car, when the trade is made the older car will be crushed as well with the Engine and transmission and not be sold again!the Engines and transmissions will be crushed. which people can use in current cars of the same make and model that need engines or transmissions for their cars to run. the government will send the money to the dealer via electronic voucher,
Problem with this if that like me I have no extra money to spend on payments and extra insurance on a new car.
and many poor people cant afford a new car, thats why like me we have an older car, if the economy was better and had money to so we would have newer cars. spending money you dont have is a bad idea!
and If to say my car was to need a transmission or cams or timing chain, water pump etc. will not be able to get them, because the parts will be crushed. what I dive is an 1993 nissan 4cyl engine ka24de engine it does 40 mpgs. you cant get better mileage on a new car of the same class engine.
Thank you for taking time and reading my petition.
FYI currently a car cant get parts if car is more then 10 year oldmanufactures no longer make them. example: I needed a new evap canister and could not buy one. for my nissan.,

Hi
I bought a new car and wanted to trade in my old car 1993 Infinity G20 under cash for clunkers. The dealer informed me that the vehicle is not eligible as the millage as per cars.gov is more than 18 miles/gallon. My old car gives max 16 miles/per gallon and that too on highway driving.
I am very disappointed that my old car was not eligible for the cash for clunkers based on millage.

I think that in some ways this is a good program, but i have few problems with it.I have a 1984 Chevy Impala and they said that my car doesn't qualify.I also think that it is stupid that the car has to be in a drivable condition, if they are just going to crush or scrap the vehicles anyways.

absolutely ridiculous. all these perfectly good cars that people with lower incomes could use and the cars do great for them. in addition, stuff thats hardly even old gets destroyed, tons of money selling parts is lost, and even rare cars that can be worth tons are heartlessly getting crushed. it's a terrible idea.

this program is a waste of taxpayers money and good cars, the idea is good but they need to have stricter rules and only take in real clunkers and then part out those cars not kill and crush them.

Please extend the program - it is one of the best things going for the economy as well as for getting oil burners off the raod.

It is REDICULOUS to detroy the motors and other significant parts of these cars. There are plenty of people that need these parts and will be out of luck.... What an incredible waste. This could have been done without destroying the trade in...

I am in utter disbelief at the useless destruction of otherwise exceptional vehicles for those who are NOT ABLE TO AFFORD a new car! I have driven by some dealerships and noticed vehicles JUST LIKE MINE being destroyed as if it were a silly game. What the hell is the purpose in this? Would it not be best to help out the unfortunate families who need one RUNNING and DRIVING vehicle in their home rather than DESTROY them? This honestly is the most ignorant and senseless act I have ever seen. How many single moms and/or dads are out there struggling to get from A to B on a city bus, having to spend all sorts of money on taxi cabs??? Anyone ever think how nice it would be for some of those nice Ford and Chevy trucks to be donated to a local small business in need of some hauling capability? USELESS DESTRUCTION...THE AMERICAN WAY!! We should be sooooo proud of ourselves. Go buy a foreign car...it will make your grandfathers who fought and died for our country, feel better.

It's completely stupid and incredibly wasteful to destroy the engines by adding more toxic chemicals - and creating more landfill junk. These parts can be reused or recycled! The government already has the ability to mark titles "salvage only" if they don't want the entire vehicle resold. And what about the cost of government oversight of the destruction? Don't destroy these vehicles - at a minimum - recycle them to the greatest extent possible. Isn't the whole purpose supposed to be to help the environment?

The program was very poorly thought up and is doing the wrong thing for the economy i think. It needs to be set up for vehicles that are 1990 and older and vehicles that get less than 15 miles to the gallon and alot of other restrictions need to be added to the bill as well

We are diminishing our countries history one bit at a time. This is just another example of how the government tries to wipe a problem away without getting to the real source.

Being an automotive enthusiast and restorer, many of the older vehicles, which will be junked from this bill, are donor cars to projects, fixes, rebuilds, etc. We also use older motors to use in off-road and racing applications. This bill is going to deteriorate that supply of good motors, and raise prices. If the motors were not destroyed, this would not be a problem. It's unacceptable to destroy perfectly good parts for those folks who make a living off of them.

I think it is absolutely terrible that the government tried to squeeze this bill under a package for military funding. This has nothing to do with supporting our military, and in my opinion it is insulting to the men and women fighting for our country.

I am writing about the new law in the senate which if passed will take older cars off the road, and not being able to buy parts to maintain older cars to keep running.
