Pfizer: Don't Sponsor Animal Cruelty!

The Hunte Corporation is the largest broker in the US of "misery puppies" - those sad products of puppy mills that end up for sale in pet stores. They try to stay out of the dirtiest part of the work themselves, instead acting as middlemen, brokering sales of puppies from puppy mills to pet stores.

Hunte is having a conference for its "breeders" this coming September. Most of the sponsors of this conference have dropped out under pressure from people who care about the welfare of animals, but one large sponsor remains: Pfizer Animal Health has confirmed via a document that they have provided (see the link) that they continue to sponsor the conference. I have personally called Pfizer to verify the accuracy of this information.

We believe that puppy mills are inherently cruel and have no place in America today. We politely but firmly request that Pfizer withdraw their sponsorship of this conference.

To find out more about puppy mills and the misery they inflict, I recommend watching Oprah's puppy mill episode, available for download here. Prisoners of Greed is another good resource. Terrierman's article on the connections between the AKC, puppy mills, and Hunte is also incredibly educational.
We, the undersigned, are horrified by the growth of puppy mills and reject the idea of dogs as a cash crop. The Hunte Corporation is the largest broker of puppies to pet stores in the US and a tremendous force in promoting puppy mills and helping them get their products to market. Hunte supports an industry of puppy millers that keep dogs in disgusting, inhumane conditions and force them to produce litter after litter of puppies until they are used up without regard for anything but the bottom line.

We politely request that Pfizer Animal Health withdraw their sponsorship of Hunte's Annual Breeder's Conference. We expect more of Pfizer than to be closely associated with a company so well known for their support of callous and inhumane treatment of companion animals.

Thank you for your consideration.
