Phish, Support Your Fans

After years of hiding phish is finally coming to concert.  As some very dedicated fans, we were utterly disappointed when we didn't receive any tickets wither via the lotto or when they went on sale.  Of 17 friends, none of us obtained tickets although we all put in requests and we were all sitting at the computer at 10:00AM on Friday. 

What baffles us is that time and time again, ticket brokers are purchasing all the tickets and making a tremendous profit from the fans.  Some brokers put in hundreds, even thousands of requests for the lotto using multiple credit cards.  They also have automated programs that purchase tickets from ticketmaster.com (for hampton tickets), or LiveNation (for summer concerts).  If you look at sites like ticketsnow.com, stubhub.com, jonesbeach.com and many others, the tickets that are in the worst sections are selling for $165, or $195 cheapest at ticketsnow.com.  Ironically, the ticket brokers were so confident they would get tickets, they put them up on ticket sites prior to the tickets going on sale.

We appeal to you Trey, Page, Jon and all managers;  please put a stop to this.  You have thousands of fans that want to see you live.  We have been waiting years but we cannot afford 200 for a ticket, and ticket brokers should not profit from your fans.

As a suggestion, require the purchaser of the tickets to enter a name that is printed on the ticket.  This person must be at the gate with photo ID to ensure they are a fan and not trying to profit.  In the event someone cannot make the concert, they can return it for a partial refund and the tickets would be available for new fans.  I understand this may be hard to implement, but please, as a band with undoubtedly the most dedicated fans worldwide, take a stance against ticket brokers.  When you decide to sell a ticket for $50, keep it at $50.  Make all fans pay that amount and cut out the ticket brokers.
