Salary caps, role restrictions or bans for convicted felons (Michael Vick and NFL employment).

Salary caps, role restrictions or bans for convicted felons (Michael Vick and NFL employment).

Target:
100000
Even though dog-fighting is a federal crime, punishment is limited and convicted criminals, such as Michael Vick can be reinstated in the NFL.

Why is this wrong?

Convicted felons cannot own or be a director of a public trust, company or entity, in the future, for the rest of his or her life.  This same standard should apply to high profile or high paying jobs such as NFL, Entertainment and other multi-million dollar jobs where power and responsibility go hand in hand.

It is wrong because a convicted criminal should never be perceived as better or rewarded more than someone who has not committed that a felony.  That criminal should gain more personally or benefit more from the same work as someone who has not committed that crime.

Concievably, he could make more than the US President if a pro-Vick ball team decided to give him a chance because they were at the bottom of the conference standings.

We the undersigned, propose new legislation that limits the salary, income and develop categories of employment (high profile entertainment, sports, publishing, media jobs) where convicts can have a significant detrimental impact to society.

We seek to reduce further risk of such crimes as dogfighting, hate and violent crimes, or other prescribed felony classes where convicted felons appear to resume their lives by sending a message that life is not back to normal and where future perpetrators are deterred.

Please forward this petition to all state, provincial and national legislators to draft new laws that prohibit unscrupulous or unknowing companies from hiring convicted criminals in these classes of employment with salary restrictions.

Please forward to friends, associates, family and animal groups.
Thank you.

Dear State Senator, MP and Governor,
We the undersigned believe that even though dog-fighting is already a federal crime in many states and provinces, punishment is limited and convicted criminals, who return to society should not be allowed to gain employment in high profile sitations, or command a high salary (for example, more than the US President).

Since convicted felons in many states, provinces and countries, are banned from ever being a director of a public trust, hold public office or sit on the board of a corporation, for life, we believe this same standard of fiduciary duty and responsibility should apply to any high profile or high paying jobs in the private and public sector--such as the NFL, NBA, NHL, Nascar, and any entertainment role that delivers multi-million dollar salaries, where power and responsibility go hand in hand.  The ability to influence or perpetrate crimes in the future, funded by profits from illegal activities is a threat to enforcement of laws and those and other crimes in the future.

We propose new legislation to remedy this possibility by either limiting the salary, income or categories of employment (high profile entertainment, sports, publishing, media jobs) and reduce further risk of such crimes as dogfighting, hate crimes, or other prescribed felony classes. We also seek to create classes of employment restrictions or prohibit projects (such as movie and book deals) notwithstanding that such profits must all be donated to charity, prevention and edcation, and the convicted felon spends time in community service to establish to set himself or herself as an example of what not to do.

If Vick is gainfully employed due to the competitive nature of NFL drafts, and he gets a $50 MM deal, then 2 years will not have been a deterrent at all in the eyes of dog-fighters and other criminals. It's crime as usual.

Thank you for your time in reading and signing this petition.  Please forward this to your friends, and at 50,000 please forward this petition to your state senator and governor immediately.

Is this really the kind of role model we want for our children? A dog abuser and murderer should not be in the limelight. He should be behind bars for years to come.

I think that Michael Vick should of gotton more punishment then what he got its getting away with murder in which he did . And still he gets to play for the NFL were is the punishment that he deserves . I don't even see the football games just because.I know he is playing and can't stand watching him. He needs to go back to jail and stay there until he gets the right punishment for every dog that he tortured and murdered

This makes me absolutely sick that Vick can get away with such cruelty because he can play sports. If any other "normal" person were caught in such a grotesque act, they would lose their job. Sad, very sad.

Would reinstating Michael Vick in the NFL send a positive message to the public about how the NFL views what Mr. Vick did to all those helpless, captive creatures? Or does it tell the public that money, fame and winning really is more important than values, morals and doing the right thing? If he hadn't been caught, how many more dogs would have gone through what the predecessors had? Reinstating Mr. Vick is giving him a slap on the wrist and looking the other way. Where does the NFL draw the line? Shame, shame, shame.

Michael Vick should not have been given his job back. He is an aweful person who had been charged with hurting another living creature. Would he have been given the same second chance if he had killed a person, or even a different breed of dog? He is a pro sports player and looked up to by many people including children. Do these children now think that it's ok to hurt an animal and they just get "put in time out" and then everything will be ok? Even better than before? Ghandi once said "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." What does what Michael Vick did say about our country? What does our countries "forgiveness" look like to the world now that he has his job back? The thought of that man still being treated as a decent human being absolutly discusts me.

It disgusts me that this man was looked up to as a hero in the eyes of children. He gets caught, serves his time, and now he thinks he is justified to go on a speech tour stating he was under peer pressure, what a bunch of crap, you are a grown man that knows right from wrong.

Vick seeks redemption, yet when BAD RAP gave him the opportunity to see his victims, he DECLINED. He refuses to look upon the faces of his victims, he refuses to acknowledge his CRIME. How can you find redemption when you refuse to face the consequences of your actions. Stupid move Vick.

If he was anybody else, anybody normal and not famous his punishment would have been far more severe. Let him see what it's like to lose everything. His dogs lost far more than he ever will. They lost there lives for an illegal sport.

Financially he paid for the shelter care of the dogs he and his friends forced into dog fighting for a short period of time. I feel that the country may not be able to pay for people such as Michael Vick to spend thier lives in jail. However, his salary should be paying for more than a few months of care for the rescued dogs. A few hundred hours of volunteerism and $900,000 later he has paid his debt to society?! Can someone please remind us all how much he makes in one year!? Well I suppose that's how it goes to some football friends who sit at a desk on ESPN and make tons of money. I wish the athletes and fans that think he "paid his debt to society" could think for 1 sec about how hard you work for your paycheck. Would you ever think about doing the things that Vick and his counter-parts did to any animal or pet? I am pretty certain that the answer is no. So how is it okay for him to continue his life less than 2 years later while getting paid tons of money for being an athlete? Thanks to those of us that see the real value an animal can bring to many people. I love my rescue pit! Scars and all! Her heart is still made of gold!

Vick was never tried for the cruelty charges in a deal with prosecutors, and is teamed with Wayne Pacelle another bottom feeder whose ethics are questionable.
