Prison for Wildlife Guard who Killed Tiger

A security guard admitted to authorities that he killed the six-year-old tigress, whose body was found mutilated last week at a sanctuary in Chhattisgarh, central India.

The 48-year-old guard poisoned the six-year-old tigress to death and later stole its whiskers and other vital parts. The guard told authorities that he removed the cat’s claws, teeth, and whiskers, because he believes them to have magical medicinal properties to enhance male sexual power and certain body parts of the feline help their possessor gain mystical powers.

Many tigers are usually killed in remote jungles for their body parts, which fetch hefty prices in the black market. But for a paid guard at a tiger sanctuary to kill the endangered animal makes this crome particularly distrurbing.

We ask that India take tiger conservation seriously and impose maximum prison sentences for this poaching, and others. The wild tiger will not survive if you don't do a better job of protecting it.
