We have taken many steps to lower our power bill. We have replaced the 25+ year old windows to energy efficient ones, replace appliances to EnergyStar models and many other things so that we could SAVE money and still remain comfortable. What the heck is it all for? If your going to increase our bills by such a substantial amount that we actually pay more by nearly $200? To pay for something that is so far off into the future and that you all plan to make money off of? Money made from again us??? It is incredibly insulting! Our whole countries economy is in the tank, people have lost their jobs and cannot find new ones, yet you all think this would be a fine and dandy time to make increases to our bill? Make some better choices, we are watching!

I've just been watching on public TV the hearings held before a Florida commission that took place in Lake Mary and on the west coast of Florida in reference to Progress-Energy and their rate hike petition. Someone there mentioned that apparently many lawmakers did not read the entire bill before voting on it... apparently there were a lot of "additionals" or "amendments" or whatever they are called, that were included in the bill, and one of them would be the prepaying by us, the citizens of Florida, of an investment cost that should be the burden of the interested party, i.e. Progress-Energy (which is a "for profit" enterprise AND a monopoly), as part of their investment costs. That investment cost is THEIR problem, not ours. I'm so mad at our lawmakers right about now for either going along with this and/or not reading the entire bill. It is SICK, yes... SICK!, that Progress-Energy should knowingly "stick it" to us that which they need to take care of themselves. And they expect to still receive their bonuses (which are obscene!) and burden the people who cannot afford any of this BS to cover the cost of all of this shortsightedness, mismanagement, greed, greed, and greed. These types of attitudes, selfishness, and lack of foresight will be our downfall as a people and a society, if this sort of thing continues in the free world. And it seems that they do not care…. Well, how can they? They don’t see it, they’re so blinded. If this statute is not repealed or rescinded, the case should be taken to the Florida Supreme Court, especially if all those items included in the bill were not fully disclosed to whomever was considering it.

Why is Progress Energy allowed to hold public hearings in the middle of a work day? Guess it interferes with their and the PSC's family time! For a public hearing to serve the most purpose why wouldn't it be held at a time when the most people could show up? But then that would be a PR nightmare for PE & PSC. I really would like to know how PE is convincing the PSC this is a good idea in this economy. Obviously by the wages PE is paying their top people they are not having financial troubles. So many of us are losing our homes & businesses while some of us are struggling to feed our families. Are they trying to run the average family out of the state? If we all end of homeless then who's going to line their pockets? We are being railroaded into paying for something that some of us will never see the benefit from. No, no, no to Florida Statute 366.93.

I just saw where the Fla progress Energy manager received a $225,000 bonus, that's on top of his 2 million dollard salary. I just looked up the salaries of Florida residence and found his bonus alone was more than 99% of Floridans make. This a stock company that already made a guaranteed 12% profit, then you granted them a 25% increase,now I read they plan 2 more requests for increases? Do you work for the people of Florida or the Utility companies? Since we pay your salaries you should look out for our interest. Please tell me where I can invest and get a guaranty anywhere close to that. Progress Energy is a FOR PROFIT corporation and a monopoly in many areas of the state of Florida (and others). If consumers are burdened with funding the capital improvements of this corporation, something is amiss in the capitol of our state. So, as stakeholders, consumers should be issued shares of stock commensurate to the amount of their monthly billing and enjoy the appreciating value of their holdings, or sell, as they see fit. Who wants to leave a nuclear wasteland for future generations anyway? Isn't this the SUNSHINE state? Where's their investment in solar development? Probably not enough profit margin for the fatcats.

Progress Energy to increase rates - again Saturday, March 21, 2009 BAY AREA (Bay News 9) -- Earlier this month, Progress Energy announced it would be lowering month bills for customers, but now the utility has said it plans to raise rates this summer. According to Bay News 9's partner paper, the St. Petersburg Times, Progress Energy asked state regulators to raise its base rates starting in July. The utility wants to increase rates by $4.88 a month per 1,000 kilowatt hours. Another hike of $9.38 would follow in January. The average customer uses 1,200 kilowatt hours.

I can't believe Progress energy. I just moved into a 960 square foot house, mid december of 2008. I had to find a cheaper place to live for me and my 8yr.old daughter.We did not have a washer & dryer or even a dishwasher.I had to turn down the heat and sometimes even cut it off to keep the bills low.They still charge me 384.30 for one month and 268.43 for the recent mont If I put the total amount of bills that we have already paid them to live in this hous for the past 3 1/2 months,it comes out to be around 814.00!!! I don't receive any financial help. How can a single parent aford this.We need a change,Progress Energy is price gauging their customers.It is morally wrong.A dirty monoply!!!!

What happened to bond issues? That's how Texas power companies dealt with the cost of building a nuclear power plant. Why on earth should those of us paying for power that we use today have to carry the full load of paying for it years down the road? Progress Energy is way out of line here, as are the legislators that agreed to the hike in the first place. I support Peter Nehr and House Bill 1101. The rest of the folks in Tallahassee need to stop working so hard to get re-election funding and answer to the voters that put them there for this term. Like Washington, Tallahassee needs a house cleaning.
