As a radio listener in the Cedar Rapids / Iowa City area, I am concerned that radio programming on local stations is too heavily skewed to a conservative point of view. To achieve better political balance that will promote public dialog and democratic discourse, I encourage radio station managers to consider switching all or part of their programming to progressive talk radio. There are many highly successful progressive talk programs to choose from - Thom Hartmann, Ed Schulz, Stephanie Miller, to name only a few.
I believe that progressive talk radio has a high probability of financial success in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area because it is a market that votes predominately Democratic in local, state, and national elections. I also believe that progressive talk will succeed in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area because of verifiable voting trends, and because people in this area enjoy healthy debate and are starved for a balanced perspective on our airwaves.

Saying the airways are heavily weighted to the right is an understatement. I would definitely support local progressive talk radio and I absolutely refuse to listen to the right-wing radio shows. I have tried in the past to listen to them in an attempt to understand a different viewpoint, but they have become way too radical and frightening!

I enjoy decent talk radio as I drive and live in the Iowa City area. Sean Hannity is not decent. I would like to hear from someone like Ed Schultz, someone progressive and who cares about the average American citizen. I'd like to be able to listen to local radio, but as much as I want to hear local news and ads (yes, I'd like to know what sales are going on)--I can only stand so much conservative talk. Please consider that I represent an important segment of the radio audience. NPR is great, but it doesn't tell me local sports scores and where to take my car for a new water pump.

KXIC would find more listeners and advertisers if they would commit to a liberal talk radio format for 6-months so that Iowa City clearly understood they are not flip-flopping in a half-hearted attempt to serve the wishes of the community that lives and works in Iowa City. A confused format of convoluted programming completely undermines the progress KXIC could enjoy while increasing content costs for the station. Progressive radio is good business for the community and KXIC.

I do not want ALL talk radio to be "conservative", "liberal", or "crazy", but we all need to hear balancing views -- not commentary from one person that claims 'fair and balanced' views. Also, anything you can do to reduce the amount of angry and incoherent speech will be appreciated. You own a radio station, but it's the public's airwaves. How you treat those airwaves affects our country's well-being. Thank you.

As one who lives in central Iowa, I am disgusted with the so-called WHO "newsradio" run by Van Harden and his buddies. His station--and Harden--are set in their ways. Wake up, Iowa!!! Don't listen to WHO "newsradio". Van Harden, if you're reading this message, I have three words of advice for you--1) Get a liberal/conservative debate program on the lines of the old Crossfire program which ran on CNN; 2) Do some investigative reporting; 3) Can Rush Limbaugh, Il Duce (er Steve Deace) and your other talk show hosts and COVER SOME NEWS!!!!!
