Help get the truth out about Prop 7!

Target:
California Environmental Organizations
Sponsored by:

We need to do something major and environmentally smart, to stop global warming pollution.

Proposition 7, The Solar and Clean Energy Act, requires all utilities to provide more solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, tidal, and small hydroelectric energy.  Renewable energy standards are increased 2% per year, over seventeen years, so that half of our electricity will come from cleaner and cheaper sources by 2025.

Electricity generation is responsible for 40% of the greenhouse gases in our atmosphere. We must take a bold step NOW and demand that ALL California utilities produce energy from clean alternatives like solar, wind, biomass, geothermal, and tidal.

Proposition 7 is a balanced solution that will reduce the rising costs of energy, and limit the dangers of global warming, including increased wildfires, water shortages, threats to endangered species, and illnesses from heat induced pollution.

Proposition 7 requires the California Energy Commission to designate solar and clean energy production zones, primarily in our vast deserts.

Act now to stop global warming pollution. Yes we can and YES WE MUST.

Before Election Day on November 4, ask California environmental organizations to jump on board and take a closer look at what the utility companies don't want us to vote for.

We are concerned California voters. We are asking you to join 700,000 Californians in supporting Prop 7: the Solar and Clean Energy Initiative.

Proposition 7 will make sure renewable energy standards are increased 2% per year, over seventeen years, so that half of our electricity will come from cleaner and cheaper sources by 2025!

Also, if the utilities fail to meet renewable energy standards, utilities are prohibited from passing on penalty costs to consumers.

Proposition 7%u2019s shift to solar and clean energy is guaranteed to never add more than 3% per year to our electricity bills.

Proposition 7 meets all environmental protections, including the California Environmental Quality Act.

Please, don%u2019t join the big utility companies who are spending more than $23 million against good clean and renewable energy policy!

I find it hard to believe that a nation with such great technological advances is having this hard a time implementing decades old technologies that are far more efficient at producing energy and far cleaner than coal, oil, and natural gas. I insist that energy companies and both our local and federal governments make immediate moves towards implementing wind, solar, tidal, and geothermal energy alternatives. There is no excuse for not having energy alternatives like this already in place when our governments already have the money and the ability to finance bail outs in the amount of $700 billion for failing banks. The money is there, all these officials lack is the fire under the ass to get it done!! I know I'll be voting yes for Prop 7 come this November, and I urge others to do the same.

California must lead the way in cleaner energy and Prop 7 is that first step that we must take in order to save our planet. California can become the leader in renewable technology through Prop 7 and become an example to the rest of the country and the world. The Utility Companies (Pacific Gas & Electric, SoCal Edison, and Sempra) will never change their ways until a law requires them to do otherwise. The Utilities have never been on the side of renewable energy this is the only way to open up their eyes that we must take this step. Along with saving our environment Prop 7 will create new high paying jobs for Californians which is also important during these hard times in California. Please support Prop 7 and vote yes on 7 on Nov. 4, 2008

To quote David Freeman: “We are facing an energy crisis of unprecedented proportion,” said Freeman. “California is simply not doing enough to respond to, and solve, this crisis. California’s current renewable energy standards are laudable, but insufficient to help solve the global warming, climate change and energy crises we face. We have one last clear chance to make a determined transition to renewable energy. But we have no time to lose. A continued massive use of fossil fuels is an almost certain path to havoc and destruction of the high-energy civilization we enjoy. Prop. 7 is both visionary and practical. Prop. 7 will help our state and our nation move more rapidly to renewable energy.”

I am so happy that Prop 7 is even an oppurtunity on the November ballot. I agree with S. David Freeman that we have to hold the utility companies feet to the fire. And all of this nonsense is letting the perfect get in the way of the good! Yes on Prop 7!
