Prosecute Sharon McDonough For Severe Animal Abuse

Long Island woman, Sharon McDonough, accused of abusing her family pets and children.  Allegedly, killed numerous cats and stashed them in trash cans and buried 42 dogs in backyard of Seldon, Long Island home.  Ray Gross of Suffolk County SPCA concluded that Ms. McDonough bought the animals or adopted them through shelters and other traditional outlets.  Some neighbors feared for their pets which had disappeared in recent months.  The children were not abused, per se, but made to witness the torture and death of family pets, e.g. strangled Maltese dog in front of daughter, who was 10 years old at the time, and wrapped duct tape around cat's nose and mouth and hung the cat from her child's bunk bed, killing it.  The 11 year old daughter witnessed this torture and death.  DA's office (Thomas J. Spota, DA of Suffolk County) said dogs were buried because of microchip and McDonough feared being discovered if carcasses were found in trash.   McDonough's adult son contacted authorities in November re living conditions  of his younger siblings.  The case is currently with Suffolk County DA's office, NY.   McDonough is being charged with Child Endangerment and animal torture, misdemeanors, carrying up to a year in prison.  (facts taken from The Washington Post article dated 01/21/2010. Editor Frank Eltman of The Associated Press). We must fight to get this woman prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law on charges of severe animal cruelty and abuse, and child endangerment.  Misdemeanor charges for animal torture of this nature are unacceptable.  This is an atrocity.  Your support is critical in helping to prosecute, convict and sentence Ms. Sharon McDonough to the fullest extent of the law.
