Protection needed for P.S. 76q students

Target:
NYCDOE New York City Board of Education
Sponsored by:
I am a resident of Queens Bridge Housing complex, with a son that goes to P.S. 76Q, located in Long Island City on 37th Ave & 10th Street. I am concerned for the kids that walk to school by themselves, and have to walk down 2 long blocks to get there, with only a crossing guard on 40th & 10th st and 37th & 10th street. Conceding, the middle block 38th & 10th ST, is in need of a crossing guard and/or light. The area is very industrial and almost completely dangerous for kids to walk alone. Sometimes the cars are double parked down 9th & 10th street, whereas the kids can not see if a car is coming around the corner. It is almost very easy for a kid to be kidnapped walking down these blocks for school. I think it would be at the parents and city's best interest to have a crossing guard on these blocks.  It's added security for our children.

Dear Sir/Madam,

We the undersigned come to you with a concern for our children that attend P.S.76Q in LIC, NY. Our concern is about the lack of protection for our children that have to walk from Queens Bridge housing complex to PS 76Q alone. The school, as you may know, is located on 37th Ave & 10th street. Our kids that live and/or walk from Queens bridge housing complex, have to walk from 40th Ave & 9th/10th street to school. In the middle block, 38th Ave & 9th/10th street, there is no street light or crossing guard. We are concerned with this matter, as it is a very dangerous industrial area for kids to be walking alone. Albeit, some kids walk with their parents, there are still some kids that do not have that option. Many parents have to either, go to work early or do not have anyone to walk their kids to school.  We are asking you to take this matter into mind. Providing a crossing guard on the block listed above, would provide ease to parents , teachers and children. Even if it's for a trial basis, it would improve the community drastically during the current school year & years to come. I believe it would give added protection to our city kids.

Thank you for taking the time out to read through our concern. I hope and pray this matter moves you into a direction to want to help out.

I agree with this petition 100%. There can be no worse feeling than having your child walk to school everyday and having to worry about their well-being. Walking to school is something that these children have to do everyday, why not make it as safe and sound as possible?
