Put Coles Back in Jail

Target:
Put Jeremy Matthew Coles back in jail.
Sponsored by:
At age 19, Jeremy Matthew Coles had never even had a bank account.  He wandered from one dead end job to another, while also being involved in a life of crime.  On October 18th, 1999 he was involved in one of the most tragic and heartbreaking crimes that BC has ever seen.  While he was out in the early morning hours, getting high on LSD, he stole a few vehicles.  One of these vehicles was a 1997 Ford Explorer.  When Coles decided he was done with the vehicle, he rigged the pedals and steering wheel with sticks.  He then put it in gear and sent it racing down the road without a driver.  Not knowing that there was a truck screaming towards him, Bill Soper (42) turned up the road with his step-son Cody Gratton-Bradshaw (6)  on the back of his motorcycle.  They both died instantly after the truck struck them.  That was the day that my family was shattered.  That was the day that he killed my dad and brother.  Coles fled the scene.  There was a country-wide manhunt and finally after days of being on the run, he turned himself in.  Judge Collingwood described Coles's actions as "wanton and uncaring," "completely deviant" and "reprehensible" in sending him away.   Coles was scentenced to 10 years in jail for 2 counts of criminal negligence causing death.  He was also prohibited from driving for 15 years.    During his parole hearing, the parole board said that he still continued to show no remorse for his actions or his victims, and had not been to any councelling of any sort.  They also said that psychological reports said that he was likely to reoffend with violence.  Having said all that, Coles only served 2/3 of his sentance and was paroled in January of 2007.

On July 13, 2008, Coles, who was banned from driving was riding his motorcyle with his commom-law wife, and crashed into a Dodge Neon.  It is reported that Coles broke his arm and his female passenger and the driver of the car were sent to the hospital with Non life-threatening injuries.  So far Coles has been charged with driving without a licence, driving without insurance and passing on the right.  This is clearly not enough.  I cant believe that he was released from jail, only to almost kill people again.  He must go back to jail where he belongs.  It is quite clear that jail is the only place where he cant hurt people.  We need to keep this scumbag off the streets before he hurts anyone else! Please sign this petition so it can be brought before the judge!

It's sad that with our justice system, no matter what crime you have commited, with good behavior you only serve 2/3 of your sentence. What's even more sad is that Coles has not learned from his time spent, he belongs in jail.

I am a true believer in putting a permanent stop to people like this. This is no different from an individual having his/her license taken away for DUI. Something needs to change, people like him need to be in jail where they can not play God with other's lives. It's time that the criminals stop being the ones with special treatment, and start to care about the victims. When someone is killed by another's ignorance, they should immediately loose their right to freedom, choices and chances. The way I see it, if you take a life, then you should not be able to live yours freely. The innocent who pay with their lives, will never get the chance to feel love, joy, sadness, pain. So why should the person who took their life get to go on to feel those things. If you take a life, you surrender yours. Stop giving repeat offenders more and more chances, unless you can do the same for the innocent lives taken by such people. Asking a repeat offender to not do it again, is like asking a child not to get dirty when playing in the mud, there is no stopping it. It's time to take the power out of the hands of evil, and put it back in the hands of all of us who have a heart.

I remember reading this story and how heart broken I was for this family. What if it had been MY Family? If Jeremy Matthew Coles is allowed to continue to live amongst us Someone else WILL fall victim to him. He has demonstrated that he is not capable to live amongst us in peace!

Hi my name is Cassie i feel that jeremy matthew coles should be put back in jail he knew what he was and was not allowed to do and if it was said that he was likely to reoffend with iolence the oppertunity for him to take that chance by being put on parole and being let out of ajil after killing two people and showing no remorse is obscured. The law should pertect people not put people in harms way knowingly and letting him out is exactly what was done. The guy has no right to be out in public and should not be allowed to have the chance to hurt others the way he has hurt so many already

Jeremy Matthew Coles obviously has no regard or respect for the law or the conditions set out for his parole. He is a dangerous offender with no thought for others. Please send Jeremy Matthew Coles back to jail again maybe he will take the time to think about what he has done and how he has devastated the lives of others.

I used to live near where this unfortunate accident occured and I believe that Mr.Coles is dangerious person in society that needs to be behind bars to prevent him from harming other innocent individuals. Coles has yet to realize his mistake and show remore for his actions causing the death of two individuals of Sousa family. This case has had a big impact on me, especially because I have walked past the mermorial put up for the individuals that died in this avoidable accident for the past two years. I think it is time that the Sousa finally gets the closure they needs by a giving Coles a harsher punishment; because of his recent accident he got caught but who knows how many other conditions of his parole he broken? My heartly sympathy for the Sousa family in this tragic time.

As a mother of a 16 year old male who was beaten to death by a 17 year old boy who received NO sentence for his murder, NO JUSTICE, our justice system is a joke, and will continue to be so until someone in our government steps up and takes responsibility. Offenders are treated better than the victims and their families, they get free room and board, eat better then half of the people in the world. Canadians should be embarrassed to say we are Canadian, we just invite criminals here because they are safe and life is better here.

I feel that the Canadian Justice System does not deliver justice to all the families and lives that are impacted. Way to many people are let out into the world with a simple slap on the wrist and a reduced sentence. Over crowding isn't OUR problem, FIX IT!..and this flawed system!

please keep this monster locked up. He is exactly where he needs to be. This is what is wrong with the justice system. they let out convicted felons and lock up people for life on a 3rd strike,no matter what it was for. This kid had no care for anyone but himself and now u actually are considering to let him out? bradshaws are related to me. Please Mr. or Mrs. Honourable put yourself in this family's position...would you want him free? i understand that when people do their time that should be it, but considering the hanisness of this crime and the shear uncaring of human life, should we care if this guy rots in prison?? Please do the right thing and keep him in jail for a long time yet... ty Danielle Hayward

People have to be more accountable for their actions -- stop holding the law adiding citizens hostage to the criminals. It's time for elected officials to uphold the laws. I am tired of paying taxes to be afraid to leave my home -- It is time to stop holding the hands of criminals.. Everyone has a choice in life --- He chose to destroy lives

MY heart goes out to this family. A person like Jeremy should not be out on the streets, he was given a chance and he still screwed it up and feels no remorse. He should not be granted the chance to be free. He should spend the rest of his life in prison thinking about what happened and how he affected the lives that he destroyed.
