Q. A. County Parks & Recreation Dance Program

Target:
Teri O'Meara's Past & Present Students, Local & State Gov't Officials, and Residents of Q. A. Co.
  1. The purpose of this petition is to gain support and awareness from the community and government officials for the renewal of Teri O'Meara's instructor contract with the Q.A. County Parks & Recreation.  Teri has instructed the county dance program for more than eight years in our community and recently learned in a letter dated June 10, 2008 from the Q. A. Board of County Commissioners (Wargotz, Ransom, Billups, Guenther, Fordonski) that her contract would be effectively terminated as of November, 2008 due to irreconcilable differences related to facility safety concerns voiced by herself in written complaints to the commissioners as well as Parks & Recreation.  The county government, in their June 10th letter to Teri O'Meara, is now soliciting proposals (RFPs) for the dance instructor position to be held in a facility owned, leased, and/or operated by the individual applicant.   This current proposal would limit access to the dance program for our children.  Teri instructs many forms of dance, to all ages, in several locations throughout the county.  The proposal referenced in the June 10th letter to Teri purports to be a ploy to eliminate Teri's ability to submit a proposal for consideration since she does not own, lease, manage, and/or operate a dance studio in Q. A. County or at all.  She has conducted dance classes within the facilities provided by Parks & Recreation for more than eight years.  Please sign this petition in support of Teri and her hard work, dedication, and commitment to the children of our community as well as the art of dance.

The same thing is happening in Talbot County now with Ms. Teri's dance program. The Talbot County P&R Department read about this story and decided to also eliminate her dance program in our county. Ms. Teri is a child advocate and wonderful dance instructor. It is a shame that these County Governments are such cowards that they are making our children suffer as a result.

Teri has taught two of my daughters in ballet and we have nothing but a completely positive experience with her. The county would be unwise to lose a valuable resource in our arts community.

Miss Teri has instructed both of my daughters ... well, until one of them got a little stage shy :) My oldest was able to experience the wonderful opportunity of dancing with the troupe, which was able to perform in historic homes both here on the shore and in PG County. You can't gain that type of an experience with just anyone. Thank you, Miss Teri!

My Goddaughter was born with a crippling condition. As she grew, she wanted to dance like her older sister. Teri was the only person who would take her on as a student. When Ally couldn't walk Teri worked her routine so Ally could scoot in her Tutu. Teri's dedication to Ally helped her to strengthen her muscles and now Ally dances in Teri's class just like all the other girls. If it weren't for kind hearted people like Teri, children with needs like Ally's would not have the opportunity to thrive. If you are looking for people to teach our children, who will view the children as more than a paycheck, you need to keep Teri and others like her, who genuinely love our kids

My daughter has taken dance lessons with Teri for five years, and during that time I have been greatly impressed with Teri's patience and talent. Her classes allow children to explore dance in a safe, warm, and fun atmosphere, without undue pressure. Her nurturing attitude and sensitivity to the needs of her students make her an asset to the Parks and Recreation program, one that would not easily be replaced. Any complaints Teri has made have been in the interest of the safety of her students, an interest that should be a top priority for P&R as well. I hope that the commissioners will recognize the disservice they are doing to the young people of our county and reconsider the termination of Teri O'Meara's contract.

Both of my daughters have taken each of the classes Ms. Teri teaches for the various age groups, starting at age 4 and now into the 8+ age classes. They both love the classes and Ms. Teri. In addition to learning dance techniques, they have increased their self confidence. I hope that Parks and Rec will be able to come to a different solution that allows Ms. Teri to continue to offer classes to the girls.

My daughter has been taking Ms. Terri's classses for 4 years...she is the only reason we are taking dance thru the county (all other classes are closer distance to us then the county's dance sites. She is an amazing instructor and I would hate to see the county lose such a quality instructor.

Ms. Teri is an excellent, knowledgeable, caring, instructor who has had a great impact on our children. My daughter has taken dance classes for quite some time now with Ms. Teri and truly enjoys it. Ms. Teri's passion for dance, warm spirit, and patience w/the children and parents alike, is profound.

My granddaughter has been taking lessons from this teacher since she was 4 years old. She likes her teacher very much and wants to continue with her in dance. I have only heard good things about Teri O'Meara. Please give her your support.

I have enjoyed seeing our two grand daughters in their dance recitals over the past two years. I have seen the care and tenderness in this lady's manner of dealing with the little ones. I hope those who want to replace her will remember that is all about the citizens of this community and their families that they serve. If she encourages better service and adhereence to regulations and rules, then what is the problem?

My daughter loved Ms. Terri's dance class. Lily took dance the year before at the Dance Connection and didn't like it. Ms. Terri really has her heart in the program and the children love her. Please keep her on, we are supportive of the Recs and Parks programs and Ms Terri Thank you

Ms. O'Meara is just acting as an advocate for our children, her students. Why should she be treated this way for looking out for their best interest! There is already a limit to the programs like this in the county. Please continue to allow her to offer these programs. She has a great relationship with the people and children in the community!

My girls are new to Ms. Teri as this is their first year of dance - they absolutely love it and Ms. Teri. It would really be ashame to see this program and Ms. Teri end in QA County because Ms. Teri - "spoke up". I applaud her for wanting better conditions available to her and our kids.
