Tell Dunkin Donuts sweet Rachel Ray is not a terrorist.

Tell Dunkin Donuts Rachel Ray Is Not a Terrorist

Target:
Dunkin Donuts' Executives
Sponsored by:
Dunkin Donuts has pulled an ad featuring Rachel Ray wearing a black-and-white paisley scarf, because a clique of right-wing bloggers led by Michelle Malkin attacked Rachel's fashion choice.

Malkin and her followers claim Rachel is wearing a keffiyeh, a traditional headdress worn by Arab men. And as silly as it sounds, these bloggers are trying to claim sweet Rachel Ray is some kind of terrorist sympathizer for simply wearing a black and white scarf, and that anyone wearing an actual keffiyeh is a terrorist.

Even more outrageous is the fact that Dunkin Donuts caved immediately to these lunatic pundits and pulled the ad. Tell Dunkin Donuts you don't believe Rachel Ray's scarf is a terrorist symbol and that you're disappointed in their decision to capitulate to the hysterical fringe of the right-wing blogosphere.

We feel compelled to let you know we don't believe Rachel Ray's scarf turns her into a terrorist sympathizer. We were very disappointed to find out you caved immediately to the demands of a group of lunatic pundits and pulled the ad.

If your company was so concerned about controversy distracting from your ad campaign, you should have ignored the inflammatory remarks of right-wing bloggers like Michelle Malkin. Your decision sends the message that you agree at some level with these bloggers' claims that anyone wearing a black and white scarf is all of the sudden a terrorist sympathizer--even sweet Rachel Ray--and that anyone wearing an actual keffiyeh is a potential terrorist.

If we want to live in a more peaceful world, we need to promote tolerance and understanding, not a culture of ignorance and fear.

As a high profile company who has an important role in public opinion, we urge you to stay out of inflammatory and silly plots, to stop partaking into offensive misconceptions and to work to create a more peaceful world.

What the hell is your problem Dunken Donuts?! Are you really going to let something stupid like that push you around? Are we going back to the times of the Cold War when anyone wearing red was "evil"? I think we have more sense then that!

Identifying the scarf as a keffiyeh is ridiculous, but assuming that the keffiyeh - a cultural item - is symbolic of terrorism enters the arena of racism.

That is so stupid! Rachel Ray is NOT a terrorist or whatever! DD you are an idiot! I'm now VERY glad that the DD in my town (the only one, by the way)got closed YEARS ago! Rock on Rachel Ray!

OMG! ITS A SCARF! *scoff* Its not on her head! And to think I supported Dunkin Donuts. Such a shame that they make bizarre conclusions like this. Geez, I'm going to Krispy Kreme.

Does everyone understand that it's a scarf? This seems like a simple deduction. I guess since Rachel Ray goes around screaming "KILL ALL AMERICANS", it's logical to think she's a terrorist. Dumbasses.

Dunkin Donuts has sadly provided credibility to the concerns of individuals who are poorly informed about cultural issues rather than taking the courageous route of making decisions based on principles of understanding and non-discrimination. Are they ethically weak or does the leadership support the view of the poorly informed? Or both. Regardless, I will no longer support Dunkin Donuts and will make sure I wear a keffiyeh. I guess any black and white scarf with a fringe will do.

She's wearing a scarf around her neck, not a turban on her head! Boycott Dunkin Donuts until they end their ridiculousness. What is wrong with some people that they complain over every perceived threat to their supposedly idyllic existence?

I'm glad I read this today, because I will NOT be supporting Dunkin Donuts at ALL if they choose to run their business in this manner :( (shaking head) I watch Rachel Ray EVERY morning and she has Always been good in my eyes!! I agree that she deserves an apology! Shame on you DD

Rachel Rays Picture and Advertisement looks much more appealing without her scarf. She appears a sweet and wholesome American and should if it were up to her, be able to chose any scarf or Pattern she wants. Because it resembles a mans scarf with political implications this does not eliminate her constitutional right to chose any pattern. If a foreign crazy wore an American flag, would we have to wait for weeks to display our Own, so people would not believe we were in support of that foreign crazy? Any American has the right to chose their cloths without condemnation. Because she did not actually make a choice of what to wear for the commercial it is worse to blame her for advertisers fashion choice. Perhaps it was a subliminal attention getter from an advertiser but are we to allow foreign crazies to dictate what we can or can not wear. If we only had such attention to government Pork and real issues!

I love your munchkins, but I love Rachel Ray more. I'll never eat another until you apologize to her. And who in your company was stupid enough to give credence to Michel Malkin? Are you guys some sort of right wing nuts?
# 402:
3:12 pm PDT, Jun 13, Steven Sica, New York
Rachel Ray a terrorist-sympathiser? Oh, come on, she's wearing a bloody scarf for a fashion effect, she is without political content in any way. She cannot afford to be a politico type -- she's purely a harmless, lightweight entertainer. And you're the same company that used to use Ed Koch asa spokesman, remember? Grow up gents, try to think straight.

I was shocked when I read this in the news. Is it for real? Who doesn't wear scarfs from time to time? I wear scarfs, my mother wears scarfs, my grandmother wears scarfs so I guess we are all terrorist sympathizers then. It's not even on her head or covering her face...then maybe I would wonder. It is around her neck where a scarf belongs (what ignorance) Why don't we get on the 12 year old little girls that wear sexy on there bottoms and cut-off shirts? My point is there are worse things in the world to worry about. If you really want to get political about it then we can go as far as saying Ray's constitutional rights were taken away when they pulled the ad because now we are telling people what they can and can't wear. Wow, I guess America really does run on Dunkin...

How sad it is that your company employes many Muslims, perhaps so you can pay them low wages. Then you capitulate to some ignorant right wing extremist by dropping the add in question. I support the boycott of such companies as yours that exibit the blatent prejudice & ignorance towards those outside their "gang". Indeed ignorance is alive & well here in the States & in your company!!

What an insult!! To associate something that could look like a keffiyeh with terrorism is ridiculous! They (D&D) need to be educated before they react to any irrational and ludicrous ramblings of an ignorant idiot!

When a person like Michelle Malkin "blows the whistle" on anything, immediately one should question the validity of the complaint!!!!! Malkin has made many offensive and racist statements in her career of earning money by appealing to bigots! Rather than being concerned that the scarf may offend some idiots who would associate it with terrorists, an absolutely RIDICULOUS leap, be concerned that by removing that commercial you supported the opinion that all Arabs are terrorists!!!! Which do you think is worse? I really want to do more than sign a petition. I want to call for a boycott of every dunkin donuts in the United States! Shame on you!!!!!!!! The US is called the land of the free (free to wear a scarf that happens to be black and white) and the brave (brave enough to stand up to nonsense). Your company has shown itself to be neither free nor brave. COWARDS!!!! Jerrilynn

It is just a scarf. I believe its a sir alistair scarf if i got my designers right. If it is made by Sir Alistair, then its actually an Indian prayer scarf that promotes peace and fair trade. It's the look i guess these days in hollywood. I have a similar one in red. I don't find it offensive at all. what's the big deal

This is one of those stories that I didn't fully believe until I heard it on several different news sources. Does Ms. Malkin have nothing better to do than analyze an individual's clothing to determine whether or not they may have terrorist connections? If she's that sharp, maybe she should go to Afghanistan and join the search for Bin Laden herself. Something that her probable 'mentor', Pres. George Bush has failed to accomplish!

Dunkin Donuts will never again have my patronage. EVER! This is rediculous, childish, and reeks of ignorant paranoia. This is just a publicity stunt for a group of bloggers that need to spend less time online blogging and more time outside their homes.
# 381:

I have also sent an email to Dunkin Donuts' online customer service address expressing these sentiments, and they have yet to acknowledge that correspondence. This company needs a wake-up call from the "average" American citizen, and I am personally fed up with the corporate knee-jerk bowing and scraping reactions (in the name of political correctness?) to complaints from the lunatic fringe. No more Dunkin Donuts products for me
# 380:

I think this is ridiculous!!! Rachel Ray is no more a terrorist than I am. Someone chose that scarf for her to wear very innocently without any thought of terriosm. This only shows how ridiculous Malkin and her followers are...they need to get a life!!!!!

I will assume that I cannot wear my black and white fringed scarf--made in Ireland--so as not to insult Islamic peoples. Americans, along with peole of other nations, are now being intimidated by ANYTHING that is stated as being insulting to Islamic people. Non-Islamic/Non-Muslim need to realize that our breathing insults them. I will not support your business--or any other--who takes the stand that you have now done. You are helping to demean me; I am an American History Teacher, watching the World being taken over and influenced by fanatics as they did several hundred years ago.

When the directors/board of Dunkin Donuts bow down to lunitics it makes you wonder if they are just as crazy as Michelle Malkin or were they smoking something really good when they made their decision. I will let others know not to buy Dunkin Donuts

I have been boycotting everything related to Dunkin Donuts for 4 years now (ever since I discovered your overwhelming support of the Republican party). I don't like Rachel Ray, and really don't give a crap about her, but, YOU Dunkin Donuts people should be ashamed. I tell EVERYONE I can about Dunkin Donuts right-wing leanings and over the years HUNDREDS of people have joined me in staying far away from your stores and your products.

Dunkin Donuts will not get my business again unless they offer a public apology to Rachael Ray. If the commercial was offensive to anyone (which is a stretch) the fault should lie with the company - not Rachael. Please - let's get a grip!

Most common definitions of terrorism include acts which are intended to create fear (terror), are perpetrated for an ideological goal, and deliberately target or disregard the safety and well being of non-combatants. Based on this definition, Dunkin' Donuts caved to the real terroristic, the behavior of the right-wing bloggers. Just because someone wears a scarf doesn't make them Muslim, and just because someone is Muslim doesn't make them a terrorist. Dunkin' Donuts--stand up for all of our freedoms, including the right to wear whatever scarf we want without the fear of being suspected of being a terrorist.

If this isn't just the dumbest thing ever. Isn't it time we stand up to the extremist nut jobs who pull this stuff? Michelle Malkin's rant is just self promotion and has no basis in fact - and everybody knows it.
