End the era of big oil

Real reasons for high gas prices

Target:
Congress

It's well past the time for the Democrats and Republicans to grow a spine and win back our respect. They can be much more persuasive with honesty, rather than deception. A ban on offshore drilling is not a significant explanation for high gas prices.
The top reasons for high gas prices:

1. Lack of competition translates into paying more at the pump.(Exxon merges with Mobil, ChevronTexaco, BPArco, etc )

2. Were the diplomatic skills of this administration up to par, oil prices would be far more stable. Invading Iraq has only brought instability. Angering Russia by placing our military and our missiles at their doorstep only brings more instability.

3. If the dollar was as strong today as it was when Bush took office, $140 would fetch closer to 2 barrels of oil.

4. CAFE standards are too weak. Future technology is promising, but fuel efficiency could double using old technology.

It seems like our President wants high oil prices. But that would make him an oil man...inconceivable!

WE NEED ATTACK DOGS BRAVE ENOUGH TO STAND UP TO BIG OIL! Instead we get politicians too eager to roll over.

President Bush is an inept moron and he has only catered to the big greedy oil companies. Good riddance to him! We need to invest more in alternative energy.

do to the fact that big business has effectivly purchased the nations law makers, and legislated away most of there compitition.who is big oil, they are social elites hiding there identities threw blind trust, family trust, and hundreds of facless shell corporations.they are the rockerfellers, bushes, chaney and thousands of usful loyal sheeple in such orginizations as the council on foriegn relations, founder david rockerfeller, the builderburger group, the G-8,G-20 and the list goes on and on.the derivitives market is a giant bankers scam that allowed the bankers to rob the entire world,by the minipulation of oil, food, and metals they made billions and trillions on things that dont exist.the current financial crisis, was engineered by the elite go read the banker bail out bill, this was not a bailout but a fasciest take over merging all nations and financial currencies into one the next thing they will do is call for a one world currancy, see statments being put forth from members of g-8 and g-20.they will not give us solutions, but world control headed up by social fasciam.

Stop being dumb government. We don't all have as much money as you do and unfortunately high gas prices affect us middle-class and lower a ton. Drilling in area's thats just going to ruin our enviroment more isn't going to help lower prices when all of that oil is just going to be sold to the highest bidder which in truth will keep our prices up. We are not dumb just because we are not rich. If anything we are more down to earth. If this is truly a country for the people by the people, then for hell's sake don't make the people angry!

Offshore oil drilling seriously threatens the health and well being of coastal ecosystems, and at the same time would not solve our energy prices, significantly reduce gas prices, now or in the future. It would reduce environmental quality and health and thus human quality of life and health. in 2002 very high levels of mercury where found in Grouper off Alabama, the mercury was coming from a layer of toxic waste left by drilling platforms. This was reported in the Mobile Press Register. the 1979 Ixtoc spill ruined hundreds of miles of beaches. After Katrina hit in 2005, 700,000 gallons of oil was spilled into the gulf. Texas beaches are polluted with tar balls because of oil drilling. Loggerhead turtles have been found dead after eating these, mistaking them for food. Seismic testing can disorient and kill whales and dolphins. There have been large beachings of whales and dolphins as a result of oil exploration. Oil drilling operations leach heavy metals and toxic carcinogens which can harm human and animal life. There are better, safer, and faster non fossil fuel ways to solve our energy problems, including conservation, public transportation, fuel efficiency standards, making our cities more pedestrian and bike friendly, urban planning to locate people close to where they work, solar and wind power, non-food biofuels, and other clean, renewable sources of energy. It would be 10 years before any of this oil even be avialable, and it would only last a few years, but the ecological damage could last much longer. We should not threaten the long term health of our environment, threaten poisoning our water and our future and our childrens future with toxic chemicals and threat of oil spills, for oil which will last only a few years and would not solve our energy problems. We need to look at real permenant energy solutions such as biofuels and renewable energy sources, and conservation that can provide us with clean, safe, renewable energy for millions of years. Floridas and other US coastal ecosystems are home to many endangered species such as the Florida Manatee and are fragile and delicate, coral reefs, birds, pelicans, turtles and so on. Offshore oil drilling would threaten permenant economic and environmental damage to Florida and other US areas and would not significantly lower gas prices. Say no to offshore oil drilling, and yes to clean and renewable technologies to solve our energy problems which allow us to do the responsible thing for the future environmental and human health of the planet, and protecting our fragile and vital ecosystems upon which we depend. Lets not destroy and ruin our environment for oil company profit and greed. more info http://ahaer.tripod.com

OVERPOPULATION AND OVERDEVELOPMENT are causes as well as not conserviing and seeking other options for energy. Add to that the sprawl in the us that depletes water tables, creates need for private transportation, increases costs of heating and cooling. Now lets look at the fact that in additiion to what you pay at the pump, the government gives billions in tax breaks and money for exploration and allows them to use public land and to avoid cleaning up the spills and messes they make and you will realize that you are and have been paying more for gas than any other country tho others pay more at the pump.

Please! For the sake of all our citizens and future generations, take time to really think about this problem. Do we have to vote out all incumbents to get a Congress who will actually take actions on this!?
