Recall Caitlin Boehne

Recall Caitlin Boehne

Target:
CAS Student Body
Government is supposed to provide a fair and accurate representation of a population, as we have seen through history, when a small radical group receives too much power we see large members of the population marginalized in the interest of a few pet projects, and the true issues and needs of a general population will go unaddressed causing irreparable harm.

Over the past month we have seen the actions of the CAS Student Senator become increasingly radical, and misrepresentative of the CAS Student Body. Culminating most recently with her participation and full support of the Take Back NYU's occupation of the Kimmel Center. These types of actions disrupt student life on campus, and send the wrong message to the administration. Instead of senseless radical stunts, we need to accomplish change through reasoned dialogue.

Students at NYU and CAS do care about issues such as Financial Aid, Tuition Stabilization, and increasing transparency, and want to see change.  It becomes much more difficult to address these issues when radical unpopular behavior drives people away, and make effective, sensible, reform more difficult. As we saw in November we can create change through existing institutions with well-spoken and rational representation that seeks to create a broad inclusive coalition of the general population, not a minority view.

The actions of Senator Boehne have harmed the image of New York University's College of Arts and Science. In these difficult and trying economic times the image and reputation of our school matters even more. When an individual who represents a large population engages in unpopular, illegal, and radical behavior the image of the represented are negatively affected. There is too much at stake right now to let this continue.

It is now our time to take back NYU, and see that the issues that truly matter are addressed, and histrionic stunts have no place in our student government.

Government is meant to listen to what people need!

I am a freshman politics major and feel that Caitlin Boehne grossly misrepresents the interests of the college and my CAS classmates. She has no respect for the position that she holds, as evidenced by her op-ed in the washington square news this week.

Senator Boehne has been in violation of both university policy and New York State Law through her actions at Kimmel last week. As per the CAS Constitution, the CAS body has the right to recall her for her illegal acts. Removal for office is the actual "democracy" we need to see happen at NYU!

There is nothing wrong with pursuing one's own interests, as long as you are in the proper position to do so. Real change at NYU will not come about if the student leadership continue to demonstrate their inability to act in a professional manner. Therefore, this student Senator in particular should be asked to make a commitment to NYU by either forsaking active membership and denying support for TBNYU, or resigning her position as an NYU student representative.

While I admire you're courage to fight for a cause you so strongly believe in, your actions and those of Take Back NYU are a disgrace and an embarrassment to the entire NYU community.

It is inappropriate for Boehne to continue to serve as a CAS Student Senator.
# 43:
3:12 pm PST, Feb 22, Name not displayed, New York
Caitlin Boehne as well as the spoilt brats who "occupied" Kimmel with their ignorant and immature demands should be not only removed from any leadership positions, but expelled from NYU too.
# 42:
1:54 pm PST, Feb 22, Name not displayed, New York
It is unacceptable for Caitlin Boehne to remain on the council. The recent events at Kimmel have made me ashamed to say I'm an NYU student. Boehne needs to be removed immediately for her assistance and involvement with this radical extreme group. Good riddance to her.
# 41:
1:22 pm PST, Feb 22, Name not displayed, New York
Her actions not only call for the revocation of her place among the CAS Senators, but also as a member of our student body.

She is an embarrassment to the university and does not deserve to represent us.
# 35:
12:27 pm PST, Feb 22, Name not displayed, New York
She tried to advance the agenda of a small radical group found on the NYU Campus. This does not represent the majority of NYU and we do not agree with her illegal and hypocritical views. They pretended that they were working for all of NYU but they only thought about themselves and what they cared about. This stunt accomplished nothing and hurt us and our school's reputation. Good Riddance.

She is a despicable human being. I am ashamed have her "representing" me.
# 33:
12:16 pm PST, Feb 22, Michael Scolnic, New York
I am embaressed recently to say that I attend NYU due in large part to the actions of TBNYU and the notion that Caitlin Boehne represents my interests is absurd.

Senator Boehne has shown through repeated immature acts that she is incapable of representing NYU students in a productive manner, and her direct involvement and support of the occupation at the Kimmel Center highlights a career of bad decision-making and poor taste.
# 30:
11:47 am PST, Feb 22, Name not displayed, New York

Senator Boehne ran for elections under false pretenses. She never once mentioned in her campaign her intention to deprive the student body of a dining hall, other osa clubs of a meeting space, or commuting students of their one refuge on campus. She must answer for her immature and reckless actions.

This is irresponsible, irrational, and unrepresenative of our student body. As a CAS student, I am apalled that Caitlin Boehne is representing me. Remove her, immediatly, please.
# 19:
11:36 pm PST, Feb 21, Name not displayed, New York
Caitlin Boehne should have used her position to express her views in a civilized and constructive manner. She didn't. She felt compelled to be a radical, acting immaturely and in a manner wholly unbecoming of someone of her titular stature. Like those with whom she protested, Boehne is an embarrassment and disgrace to the NYU community. She is a Senator so that she can raise concerns before the Senate - not utilize her position as an attention-getting tool when she stages a takeover of part of a school building. She doesn’t represent the majority, and she should not be trusted to act towards the good of the majority when she thinks hostile subversion should outweigh civil discourse.
# 18:
11:23 pm PST, Feb 21, Shyam Srinivasan, New York
Caitlin Boehne has no place representing the CAS student body. Her conduct with Take Back NYU! has disgraced NYU and all of her students. We cannot condone her behavior by allowing her to keep her position.
# 17:
10:48 pm PST, Feb 21, Name not displayed, New York
Ms. Boehne's actions were reprehensible and childish. She should be removed from her position immediately.

I love NYU, which is why this event was particularly painful for me to see. I hold all NYU students (even those with whom I disagree vehemently) to a high standard of excellence, and to witness what transpired at Kimmel on Thursday and Friday was absolutely disgraceful. To see an elected official, whose job it should be to provide a student voice directly to the administration, lose so much credibility for her constituency is utterly unconscionable. For however much she thinks she has helped us, she has set back student-administration relations a great deal, and for that she must leave.

She was elected to prevent this kind of epic schism from occurring. She has embarrassed the entire Senate.

How dare she call the work the rest of us UCSL and SSC people doing a joke. The only thing broken about the system is her continued ridiculing and inappropriate commenting on issues. SHE is the reason the coke ban was lifted. Maybe if she presented the case in a much more diplomatic and responsible way instead of attacking the very students she works with, the ban might still be in place.

# 6:

I'm a CAS student and I disagree with TBNYU!'s actions. The very fact that a senator that is supposed to be representing my school is taking a part in this protest is ridiculous. She is not representing me, nor the opinions of a vast majority of the student body. She needs to go.

As someone who knows Caitlin and voted for her so that she could get this seat, I am appalled that she has not considered how her actions misrepresent the vast majority of her constituency at CAS. While Caitlin is an intelligent and passionate person, this intelligence and passion has been co-opted by a self-important, faux-radical stunt that will likely find her severely punished for nothing more than consumerist demands along misguided pseudolegal arguments which are not even applicable to private institutions such as NYU. Take back NYU? from whom? From people like Caitlin Boehne who behave like children and refuse to take the consequences of doing the same. Resign and save some of your dignity, Caitlin - and the University Senate's, too.
