Hi! This petition will help convincing the municipal government of Calgary to add plastic recycling to the other types of recycling already in place in the city. This would mean all the recyclable plastic residents throw to the garbage could be recycled instead. In other provinces, this system is already in place, SO WHY NOT CALGARY? Do you want a better future for your children, or for your friend's children, here in Calgary? Then, please, sign this petition...

I think no matter what specific purpose it served, if it falls under the general categories of paper, plastic, glass, metals, etc, then it ought to be seriously considered for recycling, and facilities and/or amenities should be made available CITY WIDE (in ALL cities & major towns) for all citizens to do their part. This would be more greatly encouraged if such services were made available at NO COST and located in MULTIPLE and CONVENIENT LOCATIONS, with people who DO NOT DRIVE or have access to remote locales (such as myself) in mind. Additionally, I have Googled some facts on styrofoam's recyclability ; and it CAN be done. The jist of it is that the styrofoam is converted into a kind of "oil" byproduct, which can be then converted into plastic products, which in turn can of course then be recycled after use. A bit of a "middleman" procedure, but it CAN be done - so WHY ISN'T IS BEING explored and developed? As long as people insist on packaging with styrofoam, there ought to be research put into its being recyclyed, or laws put into place requiring all styrofoam be deposited at a depot for reuse (reducing the need for production of MORE styrofoam), or better yet - laws implemented to FORBID IT ENTIRELY, with heavy fines issued to any company or private sender that uses it in their shipping (recipients exempt from fines as they cannot control how parcels are packed & received, but may be accountable for REPORTING the sender's name for any packages that include styrofoam packing). There are dozens of other (and inexpensive) alternatives to styrofoam for all purposes it is used for. Styrofoam really won't be missed. In short ; not enough is being done, especially when one considers how simple what more we could do really is. If these things continue to go ignored or unaddressed, then it proves that the establishment's priorities lie in their greed-motivated, short-sighted endeavors for bigger & better financial PROFITS that come from destroying the earth and our environment rather than preserving it. Just my 2¢ (which works out to about $1.50 after the verbosity exchange rate). ~ WTW (Will)

I think this is ridiculous! We are a very wealthy city and contribute to most of the pollution in Canada (oil and gas industry) not to mention all the packaging all our extravagant purchases come in. The least we can do is recycle plastic and drastically cut down the amount of garbage we are putting into our landfills. Calgary can afford it, we just need to make it a priority!
