Help protect companion animals (pets) who are being abandoned as a result of the mortgage meltdown and foreclosures.

Reform for the ethical treatment of "Foreclosure Pets"

Target:
Mortgage Bankers and Consumers
Sponsored by:

Dear Mr. President,

The mortgage meltdown is creating a phenomena whereby borrowers are abandoning their companion animals due to foreclosure.  Many times, the reasons they abandoned their loyal friends is due to a misconception of how foreclosures are handled and believe they will come home to find their belongings removed and put out to the curb.  Some fear their beloved companion animal will be euthanized if taken to a shelter so they leave them behind and hope someone will be there to care and help out.  Animals should have rights much like humans as it has been proven that animals have a mind whereby they feel pain, pleasure, and joy.  Across the United States, thousands of animals are suffering due to outdated laws that treat companion animals as personal property.  These animals cannot be removed unless an eviction of personal property is conducted and during this time, this leaves the animal to suffer a slow and horrible death by starvation.  The law must be changed to provide protection to animals when abandoned.  Please take action to change the law and allow citizens to do the right thing without a fear of legal retribution of removing personal property without an eviction as it relates to companion animals.

Thank You,

There must be state laws passed at once that will save these helpless abandoned pets. Those people who are leaving pets behind should be held accountable for their wrong actions and be place behind bars.

This is a very important cause. Pets should not be made to pay for human stupidity.

Our family went through foreclosure five years ago and had to get rid of one dog. Now we are all doing better financially and my mother, sister and I all each just rescued three dogs from a kill pound. People want to help each other, but now we all need help and people come before animals. Its a sad world and these animals need the laws to be their advocates.

Legal proceedings and red tape are absolutely ridiculous when starving animals are clearly indicative that they have been deserted- and let's push for harsher laws against those who DO desert the animals, foreclosure or not- that's a pathetic excuse. Help the animals first- USE COMMON SENSE and pass the law of acting immediately when animals are deserted- and let them immediately be available to get adopted.

Would you abandon your children? Of course not! And you shouldn't abandon your pets either.

I am one of those people who's home is heading to foreclosure, due to the lying real estate agent who helped me by my first home. If my home is not saved I have a fight ahead of me to try and find a home for rent. Which i'm sure is not going to be easy. However, I could never give up, leave behind, or walk away from my 3 babies. My 3 girls were all rescued and they have become my children, since I have none at this point in life. So please help people who are in this situation and help them keep the members of thier family. Animals have no voice and I speak for more then just mine. PLEASE HELP !!!

It is shameful how animals are treated - you would think that in our advanced 21 century we would by now know what compassion is - it is time to give animals the respect and love they deserve.
