Reinstate Emily Tanen as New Hope Liaison at AC&C

We are writing to you today to address the wrongful termination of Emily Tanen from her position as New Hope Liaison for Manhattan Animal Care & Control. The loss of Ms. Tanen is a huge blow to the animals of AC&C and we suspect hundreds of lives will be lost as a result of this rash and irresponsible decision.
Emily has worked tirelessly for thousands of animals who have walked through the doors of this shelter. Many did not make it out, but a majority who did survive owe their lives to Emily's efforts. The beautiful, clear pictures she took of dogs with volunteers have led many to be adopted by people who otherwise would not have known they existed. Her photos captured the light in their eyes, showing their true beauty and spirit. Some did not reach the public in time, but at least their pictures still exist to show us that they DID exist, that they DID matter, that they were worth the time, effort and tears.
The loss of Emily will be crippling for the animals and for rescue groups as well. Out of all the New Hope employees, Emily stood out as the true champion of the animals. Her last minute pleas for dogs on the euthanasia list were pivotal in saving their lives. Her descriptions and bios, accompanied by her photos, have led many groups to pull dogs they otherwise would not have. Many rescues are not able to get to the shelter in person. Therefore they have to rely on the New Hope employees' views of them. Sadly, without Emily, hundreds will now go unnoticed. On days when Emily was not in the shelter, little to no pleas have gone out to rescue groups. When she is not there, dogs are photographed in front of a poorly constructed backdrop, from a distance of more than 10 feet away.
We implore you to rethink your decision and reinstate Emily Tanen as New Hope Liaison for Manhattan Animal Care & Control. The rescue community and the public desperately need her help. The animals at this shelter face a bleak existence without her. Animal Care & Control cannot afford such a loss.
