Reject the Freedom of Conscience Act
The Freedom of Conscience Act, a bill currently under consideration in the South Carolina Senate, would allow health care workers to deny patients access to certain reproductive procedures on the basis of "conscientious objection." For women seeking health care in small or rural communities with few doctors, the new bill could mean that they are denied health care altogether.
If the bill passes, it would also make it illegal for private insurance companies to sell insurance policies that offer abortion coverage--even in cases of rape or incest--to residents of South Carolina. Not only would the bill interfere with a woman's personal, private decision by limiting her health care options, it would also deny women the right to purchase insurance coverage for abortion with their own money.
Sign now to call on South Carolina State Senators to reject the Freedom of Conscience Act, which would prevents patients from gaining access to necessary health care.
