Hello. I was very excited to hear about Jaws being released on Blu-Ray. It's one my favorite movies and I've watched it almost every year for the last 10-15 years, usually around the Fourth of July. This is where my suggestion comes in.
The movie takes place during a Fourth of July weekend. I see that your release date is set for August 14. However, July 3 is a Tuesday, and I think it would be an excellent opportunity to promote a film which takes place during that time period. Especially just before a national holiday.
I realize there are other factors to consider. Rescheduling a release date by even a month affects time schedules for marketing, promotion, replication, and distribution. I have worked in retail, specifically involved with selling media (movies, CDs, and games) for 10 years, so I understand this process. Not to mention if you or another company is planning to release a tentpole picture at that same time, either on Blu-Ray/DVD or theatrically, and there is that competition element to take into account. Although, this is Jaws we are talking about.
Of course my ulterior motive is to get this film released on Blu-Ray in time to watch it on July 4 this year. But it is my opinion that an earlier release will benefit this title. Numerous media, website, and celebrities, including a quote from Michael Bay, call this "the original summer blockbuster" and in my opinion, the ultimate summer vacation movie. I think it would be a terrific way to promote this release. And don't forget the digital copy, so that families can watch it on their road trip to the beach!
