Remington Arms 17 HMR Recall

Target:
Fair compensation for Remington 597 magnum recall
Sponsored by:
This petition is to let Remington Arms know how consumers feel about the unfair compensation of their recall.
This petition is to let Remington Arms know how consumers feel about the unfair compensation of their recall.
To Remington Arms:
We the undersigned are consumers of Remington products. Owners of Remington's model 597 .17 HMR Magnum Rifle demand fair compensation for the recall in effect. Below I have posted the exact verbiage from Remington Arms. I believe this is unfair compensation for an American company to treat it's loyal customers with so little respect. I feel that I speak for all Remington customers that this recall will make us follow another company who treats its customers with as much respect and loyalty as the consumers shows to them. Fair compensation should be a retail for retail swap of the firearm for another model of equal value or the full M.S.R.P. that Remington has set. All Remington customers will look to this when they purchase future firearms and wonder what will be the outcome for them if a recall happens to their firearms. No one wants to spend $587 for a firearm to turn around and the company offer them$250. Americans want to support a company that will support them. If this is not handled competently it will cause irreparable damage in our confidence in Remington arms. Please contact Remington at 1-800-243-9700, Prompt #3 and let them know this is unacceptable behavior.
Sincerely,
The Petition Signers

I love my .17 and have made alot of people envious with its accuracy and just noticed cracked cases havent shot it since by a fluke saw the recall at the drs office and have been insulted by this offer own about 10 remingtons from rifles to shotguns and 200$ wont touch any of them new i believe they just lost a friend and they cant afford much of that

Guns are increasing in value and Remington has depreciated my value nearly 40%. Remington needs to apply a "Fair and Reasonable" valuation for this recall. The vouchers should be at least $400 for the 597Mag synthetic version.

I want to shoot a .17HMR and not compromise to a .22 Mag. I have Hornaday .17 HMR ammunition and I don't want it to go to waste. I purchased the .17 HMR for a reasona and it is not Remington's priviledge to change my mind. They need to do what is right for the consumer!

I will wait for a better offer than $200 or a rebbl. Paid over $350 for the rifle new.

This rebate is a rip off. Purchased the gun for a friend and now Rem. does not even offer a .17 gun. We paid a lot more than what they are offering. Time for a class action suit. I have personally called Remington and tried to talk to the higher ups but to no avail. Wont buy anymore Remington products

I talked to a Remington rep, yesterday and they will replace the barrel on my 17 with a 22Mag. if I want. I said to go ahead, that would be better than fooling around the other way.

I wonder how Ruger would would handle a recall? Oh yeah I do know, they sent a box for my gun, paid for shipping there and back fixed my gun in ten days sent me an extra clip and apologised for their error. Remington is trying to profit from their screw up and want to give you half price for your gun so you can buy another screw up. Do they think that we're stupid? Sad sad sad!!!!!

Just accidentally found out about the recall on this gun yesterday. The interesting thing about it is that less than a month ago, I was told by a salesperson at one of Remingtons' Authorized Service Centers that a box of CCI .17Hmr ammo, which was labeled NOT for use in a semi-auto gun, was perfectly fine to use in my 597 .l7HMR semi-auto and that "Remington" said it was perfectly safe!!! Are you kidding me? Apparently, Remington has not even properly informed their service centers!!!!!!!Unbelievable!! I shoud have been informed then about the recall-but instead, was told not to worry about the labeling on that box of ammo!! In the little time I have had to research this, it is clear to me that Remington should be giving full refunds, or vouchers for the full purchase price to use on ANY product made by Remington or the other manufactures owned by the same company that owns Remington. I plan to keep researching this and hopefully find a class action suit to join. I have read about other smaller manufactures of similar guns, giving full refunds. Remington needs to be shown that they have NO business without our business. They need to be more concerned about consumer safety and do the right thing-instead of just taking care of their pocketbook. To the retired Remington employee who is telling us that WE need to be more concerned about Remington, "the company who protectes our 2nd amendment rights", I would say, it is Remington who needs to continue to protect their and our 2nd admendment rights, by policeing themselves-instead of taking the action that they have chosen, which could lead to more federal reguations upon THEIR industry. They have just as much to lose in this situation as we honest, lawabiding, faithfilled American consumers do. Most all of us who own one of the guns, own more Remingtons, and have put our trust in them to produce a reliable, safe product. We have and continue to pay them royally, for our love of firearms, whether it be for protection, hunting, collecting--whatever. We have made them what they are--and we deserve better--much better.

YES I DO BELIEVE I AM OWED MORE THAN JUST $200 FOR MY GUN, I PAYED ALMOST $300 FOR THE GUN AND OVER $500 IN THE SCOPE FOR THE GUN AND ALSO HAVE A SPOT LIGHT THAT GOES ONE IT THAT I PAYED OVER $75. NOW THIS STUFF IS USELESS TO ME. I AM NOT VERY HAPPY ABOUT THIS. I HAVE OVER 8 REMINGTON GUNS THAT I OWN. IF THIS IS ALL THAT I WILL BE RECIVING FROM THEM FOR MY GUY THIS WILL BE THE LAST REMINGTON ARMS FIREARM THAT I WILL PURCHASE

This is a bunch of crap. Giving back less than was givin and not offering to fix or replace with equal value. Remington blames the ammo company. Only way I will send it back for a voucher is in pieces so they can't rebarrel and sale as new. Jackasses!
# 263:

Mine has blown the magazine out once. Have not shot it much since. I want my money back are a voucher toward a remington gun of my choice not a 22 mag retro fit. If not treated right I'll just hang it on the wall as a reminder of what brand not to buy.

I had no knowledge of the recall when the rifle exploded. Shooting from a benchrest the magazine blew apart and burnt my hand and cut two of my fingers. The bolt and internals came out the ejection port and now remington says I can have a $200 certificate for my next remington purchase. Not Good business! I dont know that I want another Remington!!!

Do you believe Remington Arms owes you something more than a $200-$250 voucher for your $400-$600 gun? Please let your friends, family and The Better Business Bureau know what Remington is trying to pull over on it's consumers!
