Remove block limits at Carnegie Mellon!

Petition for a maximum of 5 blocks per day as opposed to the current system of 1 block per mealtime

The current dining system has 4 meal periods on weekdays and 3 meal periods on weekends. Students are only allowed to use a maximum of one meal block per meal period. This does not allow students to make full use of their designated meal plans, which they have paid for in advance. As these meal blocks pile up towards the end of the 2-week period, more blocks become leftover than meal periods in which to use them. This system does not allow for situations in which one becomes hungry twice within a given meal period, also it does not allow for students to adequately plan their own meal times. Students are not given excess blocks when they have guests on campus like other universities. We would like to suggest a change in this system by instead imposing a limit of 5 meal blocks per day, instead of limiting the students to one block per meal period. This suggested change would be easy to implement and students would have more effective use of their meal plans. Also, students could schedule their eating habits around their own schedules and could use their extra blocks as guest blocks.
