Repeal CAPTA and The Adoption and Safe Families Act of 1997

This petition is to repeal CAPTA (Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act) and ASFA (the Adoption and Safe Families Act of 1997). The family court systems all across America are misusing and abusing these laws every single day in our country. CPS agencies are removing children from safe, loving homes and putting them into foster care, all in hopes of getting a bunch of money from the federal government. As long as there is a financial incentive to having parental rights terminated and children adopted by foster parents, reunification efforts will be sketchy, at best. The system is set up for parents to fail. These laws need to be repealed.
We the undersigned ask that you repeal CAPTA and the Adoption and Safe Families Act signed into law by President Bill Clinton in 1997. The family courts are abusing these laws everyday and until the financial incentives to having children adopted out are gone, reunification efforts will be minimal, at best and non-existent at worst. The children that these laws were meant to help are the ones still floundering in the foster care system. These laws are too vague, too poorly written and too open for interpretation by the individuals implementing them. They must be repealed and/or rewritten so that misuse and abuse will no longer be tolerated. Let America know that you are pro-family.
