A healthy, new Victory Garden at the White House? Yes, we can!

Replant a Victory Garden at the White House

Target:
President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama
This petition drive is part of KGI's "Eat the View" campaign (EatTheView.org) which is seeking to plant healthy food gardens in high-profile, high-impact places. What better, more symbolic place to start than at the White House, "America's House?"
This petition drive is part of KGI's "Eat the View" campaign (EatTheView.org) which is seeking to plant healthy food gardens in high-profile, high-impact places. What better, more symbolic place to start than at the White House, "America's House?"
We, the undersigned, are asking that you instruct the White House's 13-person grounds crew to plant an organic Victory Garden on the First Lawn with the produce going to the White House kitchen and local food pantries. The White House is "America's House" and should serve as a model at a time of economic and environmental crisis. In setting aside even a small part of the White House's 18 acres for this garden and eating from it, you would not be breaking with tradition, but returning to it (the White House has had organic food gardens before) and leading by personal example on global challenges such as economic security, food security, climate change, health care, and energy independence. Thank you for considering this request and congratulations on your new roles.

Love the idea, cz it mirrors my own intentions for such a garden, as well as recalls my parents' and grandmother's Victory Gardens. (By the way, I didn't sign the Facebook petition because the page was blocked. There are TONS of signatures there.)

A garden will set an example showing people they can help feed themselves. And the food grown locally will taste better.

As a part time farmer I urge all Americans to grow some of their own food.

In planting this garden you send a huge message to everyone - about nutrition, about the environment, about independence, about health and about 'grass roots' and its effectiveness. Literally.

Obama & Michelle, sitting in a tree, K.I.S.S.I.N.G, first comes Love, then comes marriage and after 2 beautiful babies; came their gardening tools in a carriage. This is a beautiful Idea for you, for your family, for your friends and for your country (never mind the millions across the Globe that you both inspire).. We finally have a president and first lady; that are as beautiful & nurturing as this beautiful garden we would love to see at your new home.. Take my advice and do this, it’s fun, beautiful to look at, symbolizes inspiration in it’s many forms and your gardener can take care of the whole thing if you don’t want to get mud under your nails…. My Mom used to tell me that she could see my face in all the flowers in the house, and now, I can see the both of you in all the plants in my house.. Please do this AND THANK YOU… Muawwww…

Please do this for yourselves, your daughters, and the country. This is not just about one garden at the White House, but about the millions of new gardens and gardeners you will inspire by your example. Thanks.
