The fight to stop the endless stream of unwanted pets flowing into our shelters, pounds and rescues must begin in these very places on the front lines of the battle. All these facilities and organizations are being overwhelmed by the animals being discarded as nothing more than surplus. The first line of defense in this battle must begin with the very organizations that clean up the messes and perform the euthanasia of vital, healthy animals on a daily basis. It is up to all concerned citizens and animal advocates to urge the lawmakers of Kentucky to immediately pass HB240 which will require every animal being adopted from the facilities charged with the care of these animals, be required to insure the pets are spayed or neutered before being released for adoption. This is the first, and most simple step in reducing the numbers of pets coming into an already over stressed system.
