Both of my parents and a lot of my family went to that school. I believe that by restoring it you will be making an impact on our community. I believe that it will show the younger generation how important history really is. The rock building was there before I was born and I would like to see it there for my grandchildren. It holds many memories and stories that we should not let die. Please take this into consideration when the decision is made. Don't make our community have to say I remember when the old rock school used to sit right here.......

To me the Rock Building is the heart of the Murray County School System. Murray County is known for the Rock building. We owe it to our youth to make every attempt to preserve and rebuild the Rock Building. Walking into the building is an experience, just looking at a picture of it in years to come will not mean as much as actually seeing it and touching it.

The "Rock Building" is the focal point of education in Murray County. It is a symbol of our heritage for those of us born after 1934. The building should not have been neglected in the past and allowed to get in such bad condition. Reality is: powers that be do not preserve what we have. New is not always bigger and better. I think in due respect to Mr. V.C. Pickering, for his contributions, we need to try our utmost to rebuild the "Rock Building" to it's original status as much as conditions will allow. The building should be named: The V.C. Pickering Administrative Center in his honor and would become the new home of the current Central Office now located on West Chestnut Street in Chatsworth. There is reports of a plan and a SPLOST bill that passed for the afore-mentioned suggestion that never materialized. Why? Who knows? I attended High School in the Rock Building and it tore my heartstrings to stand by so helplessly and watch it burn. I called all my classmates who live out of town the day it burned and received words of sadness from all of them. We were the Class of 1954. So let us all pull together to do the right thing and REBUILD if at all possible!! With God all things are possible to them that ask and believe. I BELIEVE!!!!!

Yes, I am willing to help in any way I can to help raise funds and donate what I can to the Restoration Fund in the name of the Class of 1954 ( I had not made my donation when the building burned). Some of us have been financially blessed more than others but every little bit helps when we pool our efforts together. I have always helped with the fund raising anyway possible. There is jobs for all such as: mail letters, make and distribute posters, make phone calls to solicit donations and follow-up on pledges and go pick up donations. These are just some of the ways people can help in fund raising so people with money, give and people with desire ,let's work to achieve the same result: REBUILD THE "ROCK BUILDING" !!!!!

It was built with great care and by people who knew how to build a enduring building. It signifies the people of Chatsworth for generatiions and is a historic treasure that is part of who/where/what of our city.

Yes, if all the citizen who care would just give what they can or willing to give, it could be done. At least the front part of the place should be rebuilt and maybe leave off the back side.

I have 8 siblings. Seven attended school in the rock building including myself. I have many memories there. It is extremely important to preserve our heritage in today's world where our very nation's heritage is being challenged and changed.

It is a part of my past and the past of our county. It has stood as a symbol to us of strength and links the past to us in a manner that no other structure in this community possibly could. It was to be a timeless reminder of where we have been and should be here long after we are gone. Restore our heritage to us so our children can stand in its shadow and ponder their futures.

As a Murray Countian by choice (31 years) I just can't understand why anyone wouldn't want to save all the historic structures possible. If we don't do this, they will disappear one by one just as our rights are doing now. This should be a simple choice to make because it is very possible that all funding will come from the insurance company and from grants, which don't have to be paid back. Our taxes have already funded many of these grants so we may as well try to bring them to Murray County instead of letting some other city or state get them. Yes, by all means restore it.

I've already made a pledge!!!!!

the rocks could be salvaged, and used to build a new structure in the exact same location as the old one. It would be nice if exterior of the new building could be a replica of the the old one

It is historic and a landmark in the county.

I've been told because of the age of the building, funds may be availabe thru the Ga. Dept. of Community Affairs to help rebuild the building if it can be used for something to benefit low and moderate income people, i.e., a Senior Citizens Center, etc. The maximum amount ranges from $500,000 to $700,000, but your County Administrator could check into that.

This building stood as a monument to education in Murray Co. I know there could be a monument errected in its place, but if it were possible to restore it, there would be even more meaning attached to it.

Building like this with a history are like a piece of golden thread woven through our community. They ad character and personallity to the community. I would love to see the building restored, at the same time practicallity has to be considered, the future usefullness the impact on our current students education. Yes the building has meaning to most all of our community, but it is not as important as the current students.

Yes.

I think the Rock building should be restored because it was something in everyone's life. It is a historical building. I was in tears when I heard of the fire.

If I was financially stable enough to pay for the restoration I would, however, I would donate my time to help work on the building.
