In 2007, the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) announced that Videos of any type could no longer be included in home-study and online courses unless NCBTMB-approved instructors offer one-day workshops to monitor and test home-study participants on the techniques presented in the videos.
Please reverse this decision or modify it

The massage therapy community and certified body of applicants feel that this ruling is unnecessary and had been passed suspiciously without our knowledge or overall consent.
Please reverse this decision or modify it! The massage therapy community and certified body of applicants feel that this ruling is unnecessary and had been passed suspiciously without our knowledge or overall consent.

Many feel that this was a poor move in NCBTMB's part. It passed with little knowing of it, it has harmed many businesses that offer trainings online, and has made it very difficult to get quality training at an affordable rate. Online education is booming! And according to recent studies by the Department of Education have found that online interaction classrooms can be even more effective than the traditional face to face setting.

We the undersigned request that NCBTMB re-evaluate their decision to remove online education from the CEU program.    Massage Therapists cant afford it. The average full time working therapist makes between $30,000 & $60,000 per year. And a fair majority that do it on a part time basis make much less than that. The requirement to travel to another state, pay travel fees, etc, is too great.    Please consider new requirements or reverse it.

Suggestions

Live video feeds. Require twice the hours required for live online interaction vs live in person interaction.

Or consider a site monitor. A professional educated in a similar field to have a live "online" assistant training, prior to the online "live feed" training. Allow groups to meet at churches, or community centers to keep costs down.
