Review the Live IN Caregiver Program & equally represent/support the interests of Cdn families

  • by: Association of Caregiver & Nanny Agencies Canada ( ACNA Canada)
  • recipient: The Honourable Jason Kenney,Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Canada and all Canadian Member of Parliament's  of all employer constituents who require live-in Caregivers under the Foreign Worker (FW): Live-In Caregiver Program (LCP).

Canada’s Live-in Caregiver Program (LCP) affords families the option to hire foreign Live-IN caregivers to care their children, the elderly and disabled persons in their OWN HOMES, which enhances the quality of life. The shortage of local live-in caregivers has increased since the recent release of thousands of Open Work Permits.
In addition, the April 2010 new regulations have resulted in significant increased burdens to family employers including; hiking the costs to employers by mandating the paying 100% of the recruitment and immigration consultant fees, airfare and health insurance, and long and unpredictable processing times (6-24 months) for a foreign caregiver, without guarantee of a working relationship.

While the government claims that demand has declined, employers are saying that the Government is not supporting Canadian families and that hiring from overseas has become prohibitive, frustrating and unfair to hard working, tax paying employers.

The LCP is important for working families and Canada’s aging population.

We support balanced changes to the LCP and request that the government review the program with the goal of making it more fair and accessible for Canadians, while still protecting the interests of foreign caregivers.
