Rick Warren: Please Denounce Anti-Gay Bill in Uganda!

In March 2008, U.S. evangelical leader Rick Warren told Ugandans that homosexuality is not a natural way of life and thus not a human right. One year later, U.S. conservative evangelical and Holocaust revisionist Scott Lively (a resident of Massachusetts) addressed the Family Life Network and Ugandan members of Parliament in March 2009, saying legalizing homosexuality is akin to legalizing "the molestation of children or having sex with animals."
That March meeting launched a campaign that has led directly to today, when the Ugandan legislature is debating an anti-gay bill that would lead to life imprisonment for gay sex, and death for those having same sex relations if they are HIV positive or having sex with someone under 18. Heterosexuals would have no such restrictions. This law, which would also criminalize any human rights organizing for LGBT rights, could be passed any day.
We call on Rick Warren to denounce the antigay legislation proposed in Uganda and challenge his friends like Archbishop Henry Orombi and Pastor Martin Sempa who are leading the charge.
Here in the United States, Rick Warren says he loves gays, but in Africa, need to hear his voice loud and clear that gays and lesbians are entitled to full human rights.

The only way towards positive progress is the brotherhood of man. Human is Human and we all deserve our RIGHTS. Human rights belong to EVERYONE. It is not the business of man to pick and choose who deserves to live or die. Surely a just and loving God would not approve of this legislative proposal, nor would He bless those who support the wholesale murder of people with HIV. That this is even being considered in the 21st century disgusts me and fills me with same. Please do not support this awful, inhuman piece of legislation.

My brother was stationed in Uganda for the Peace Corp and my entire family visited for 2 weeks in 2006. It was the best experience of my life and this place holds a special place in my heart. Obviously they have some misguided information so please do everything you can to stop this. Thank you

This bill is repulsive - it is comparable to nazi law against Jews during the Holocaust. We must protect people's right to live and be free whether they are straight or homosexual. I understand that the issue of same sex relationships is a theological grey area and I fully respect the right of individuals to come to their own decision. What I do not believe is that God's attitude towards injustice is a grey area. Unfortunately, to speak out against this issue now will seem like you have caved in to the pressure from groups such as this. I hate to say it but I am sure that there will even be those who throw what would be an enormous act of grace back in your face. So I understand that we are asking no small thing but please address the issue of the treatment of same sex relationships in Uganda. I am not asking you to change your theological understanding of same sex relationships but you have a voice that can influence out brothers and sisters in Christ from Uganda, please use it to urge them to respect the rights of all humanity.
