Rick Warren: Please Denounce Anti-Gay Bill in Uganda!

Target:
Pastor Rick Warren
In March 2008, U.S. evangelical leader Rick Warren told Ugandans that homosexuality is not a natural way of life and thus not a human right. One year later, U.S. conservative evangelical and Holocaust revisionist Scott Lively (a resident of Massachusetts) addressed the Family Life Network and Ugandan members of Parliament in March 2009, saying legalizing homosexuality is akin to legalizing "the molestation of children or having sex with animals."

That March meeting launched a campaign that has led directly to today, when the Ugandan legislature is debating an anti-gay bill that would lead to life imprisonment for gay sex, and death for those having same sex relations if they are HIV positive or having sex with someone under 18. Heterosexuals would have no such restrictions. This law, which would also criminalize any human rights organizing for LGBT rights, could be passed any day.

We call on Rick Warren to denounce the antigay legislation proposed in Uganda and challenge his friends like Archbishop Henry Orombi and Pastor Martin Sempa who are leading the charge.

Here in the United States, Rick Warren says he loves gays, but in Africa, need to hear his voice loud and clear that gays and lesbians are entitled to full human rights.

Pastor Warren: Please speak up and denounce the anti-gay bill in Uganda!

You were very very wrong in setting this into motion by telling Ugandans that homosexuality is not a natural way of life and thus not a human right. It is my right, and it is totally natural for me. I am a gay Christian & my God does not believe in the death penalty for gays and He bestowed this homosexuality upon me and He loves me as much as He love you.

Heterosexual women and men do not understand homosexuality. Your knowledge of how it works and your ideas that conclude it's a choice simply imply a refusal of understanding stemming from a narrow, biblical lens. If you legalize homosexuality, you are dismissing it as a part of God's perfect creation, sir, and that is blasphemy.

Dear Pastor Rick, Jesus calls us to follow his example and to treat the outcast and the despised with love, compassion and decency. It does not matter whether you think homosexuality is morally wrong or not. Jesus associated with people regardless of what anyone thought of their moral worth. If we are going to call ourselves Christian we must imitate him. The actions of the Ugandan government are an expression of fear and hate, not love. God bless you and keep you.

Dear Pastor Rick, I know you do a lot of really good work for people, BUT.....do you think that Jesus would condemn the outcasts of society to fatal doom at the hands of the ones who are actively and righteously told to hate them? I don't think Jesus, who by the way was too seriously cool for his time, would do that. Then why do you encourage his followers to do it? It's not right - and you're creating extremely bad Kkarma in your name. You'll have a LOT of innocent blood on your hands. Best regards, Frank Gannon

This is a bill that promotes hate in the name of God... it's so interesting to me that some people, such as Warren who preach about God's love and forgiveness are the same folks who turn around and use God's name to teach hate and intolerance to influence others to believe as they do. This is beyond wrong and injust.

Dear Pastor Warren--I hope your identification with the Jesus who lived with the outcasts of society, who turned none away who came with sincerity and trust, and who is not scripturally quoted as saying anything about homosexuality, will persuade you to decry this move by the Ugandan parliament and deny the equivalences offered with child molestation or having sex with animals.

For more impact, add a pRick Warren, You're actions as described above have helped to lead to the Ugandan legislature debating an incredibly hateful and damaging Bill. Surely any man of god would not stoop to such levels and attempt to influence policy in a country that will not only see the criminalization of someones sexuality but also can and probably will lead to some of their deaths in the form of executions! I ask you to rethink your position on this in terms of what God's message of love to ALL men and women means to you (even the ones you don't agree with) and ask yourself am I really prepared to be the hand that helped lead to the deaths of men and women that caused you no harm? No Human deserves to be executed and their life taken away from them for not being what you or anyone else deems to be 'natural'. Are you really that twisted inside that you would see this happen? I hope not. I hope that there's an ounce of decency left in you and you will as far as you obviously can contact the Ugandan legislature to encourage them to abstain from passing such hate filled and un-Chirstian laws. Thank you for your time Matthew Schuetzersonal comment here

This is such an amazing crock of B.S. I have ever seen. Any part of this country's participation in promoting this type of thinking should be arresting anyone involved in it. It makes me ashamed that anything like this could directly or indirectly be associated with my country. SHAME on those that have done such a horrible thing. To me, it only proves their ignorance and misuse of their positions! It just makes me respect my own government even less than before! Very SAD!

Not only are your views ridiculous, but they are dangerous. Think of the backlash it will have on beleagured homosexual citizens of Uganda. Where do you get your information? Are you homosexual? If not, then how do you have any idea on how "natural" it is? What an appalling act, standing up in parliament and preaching such hatred. Uganda has a lot of problems and a lot of good you could have done, but you chose to inflict your bigoted beliefs on an already struggling minority. Shame on you.

Mr. Warren - if you really are a Christian, as you claim to be, then act Christ-like.....and that means unconditionally loving ALL people that our Heavenly Father created....to include gays and lesbians. Otherwise, you are a hypocrite, and something MUCH less than Christian!
