Robert Reich for President 2012

Robert Reich is Professor of Public Policy at UC Berkeley and chairman of Common Cause, a non-profit lobbying and advocacy organization dedicated to campaign finance reform and ethics in government.  He has served in both Republican and Democratic administrations under Presidents Ford, Carter, and Clinton, the latter as Secretary of Labor.  Reich has published thirteen books, most recently Supercapitalism: The Transformation of Business, Democracy, and Everyday Life and Aftershock: The Next Economy and America’s Future.

As a former Secretary of Labor and an expert in economics, Robert Reich understands exactly where our economy went off the tracks and how to get it back on.  His analysis of how our economy has collapsed and why we’re having so much difficulty reigniting it is thorough, incisive, and accurate.  Further, he’s able to explain these highly complex issues in such a way that they’re understandable to everyone.  A presidential campaign would give Professor Reich a platform to explain to the American people the real reasons for our current economic crisis—and how we can resolve it.

Further, a Reich campaign would be good for America because:
  • The American people have little enthusiasm for any of the presidential candidates currently being put forward by the two major parties.
  • The American people are increasingly frustrated with the failings of the two-party system itself, and resentful of the parties’ corporate ties.
  • The American people want a candidate who doesn’t accept corporate contributions and isn’t beholden to corporate interests.
  • The Democratic party has become accustomed to taking the progressive vote for granted and the threat of losing these votes would force President Obama and the Democratic party to lean left.
  • And finally, if there are no other challengers on the left, conservatives are going to dominate the news and the national conversation with their counterproductive, regressive proposals from now until election day.
Please support Robert Reich for President in 2012.
For the good of our country, we the undersigned encourage you to declare yourself an independent candidate for President of the United States.

We believe you have a unique understanding of where our economy went off the tracks and how to get it back on, and the ability to communicate your ideas in such a way that they are easily comprehensible to everyone.  We further believe that a presidential campaign would give you a platform to explain to the American people the real reasons for our current economic crisis—and how we can resolve it.

  • The Democratic party has become accustomed to taking the progressive vote for granted and the threat of losing these votes will force President Obama and the Democratic party to lean left.
  • And finally, if there are no other challengers on the left, conservatives are going to dominate the news and the national conversation with their counterproductive, regressive proposals from now until election day.
For all these reasons, we encourage you to declare yourself a candidate for President of the United States in 2012.
