With the closure of the only roller skating rink in the Northern Suburbs of Joondalup Western Australia it has left many unhappy and dissapointed youth and community skaters at a loss as to what to do. Many did not belong to competitive sports but enjoyed the recreational activity that roller skating gave them, it kept them fit and healthy and was a social place that was a safe secure environment to be in. It kept many youths off the general streets, hanging around shopping malls or even at the train stations it gave these kids something that was enjoyable to participate in and accomodated for many reasons for them to socialize. With out this rink they are lost with no where to go after school at weekends and during the school holidays, with child hood obesity and youth crime on the rise we seriously need the local authorities to look at all possible avenues to be able to make it possible to have another rink built in this area. This type of recreational activity is one of the catalyst for  the youth and community gatherings, a place where they could play talk and share experiences as well as actively get fit. Importantly it has a a positive effect that reaches many levels of our community.

Recreational and sporting Roller skating can help to divert young people from crime and anti-social behaviour. It keeps them off the street and physically fit.

Are in support for the need for a roller rink facility to be available in the Northern Suburbs.  Your Petitioners therefore respectfully request the Legislative Council to recommend the support the following to the City of Wanneroo for the allocation for a purpose built facility to be available in the northern suburbs and to assist and support any private business venture application that may be made. For the sake of all the Rollersports concerned and the HUGE VOID that has been left and felt by, the general community, recreational skaters and the future voters of our community the Youth to please provide us with a positive outcome to encourage this sport and great recreational activity to be able to continue in the Northern Suburbs.
