San Diego Bike Share

Every year millions of dollars are spent on oil that gets refined into gasoline for our motor vehicles. As your vehicle heats up that gasoline it produces a waste that is exhausted out from your tail pipe. The exhaust is filled with chemicals such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide and benzene just to name a few. These chemicals are harmful to our atmosphere and environment. As our population grows, more and more cars will be on the road, congesting our highways and byways . That congestion leads to reduced miles per gallon for everybody, including hybrid vehicles. San Diego is now consuming more oil then ever before and dollar amount we spend on that oil nationwide is growing at a alarming rate year after year. As Californians we need to set an example for the rest of the country to follow. We need to promote a green and self sustaining lifestyle so that future generations will be able to appreciate our beautiful coastlines and mountains that we've all grown up with. In an effort to get more cars off the road I am proposing that the city of San Diego use a combination of government subsidiaries and private advertisement investors to fund a city wide bike share program. What is a bike share program you may ask? A bike share program is a new way for getting around. You pick up a bike at a conveniently located station and drop it off at another when your done. Used in combination with existing forms of transportation such as the bus or trolley and you'll be able to get to just about any location you want within San Diego county. Simple, clean and affordable, its just makes sense. But is it possible this could work on along term basis? Yes! it's simple really, the government provides an initial start up fund while advertisers pay for the maintenance of the bikes and stations. Much in the same way that Denver Colorado and San Francisco (starting this year) supports their bike sharing programs. On a side note this would also create more jobs, improving our local economy.  Please sign this petition whether you live in San Diego or not and help promote a healthy living environment for generations to come.
