San Juan River Project/Pagosa Springs, Colorado

For several years now the local community has expressed to the Mayor Aragon and town council members the wish for a improved river corridor. Issues discussed included better access, completion of a "river walk", bank stabilization, several kayaker "playspots", improvement of fishing habitat.
Last year, Gary Lacey was hired and the plans where drawn up and everything looked to be a go....Enter Bill Whittington and The Hot Springs Resort. Mr Whittington's view of the river project does not mesh with what the community has asked for, and he has donated 25k to the river project that will meet his "view"...Basically limiting access to anyone who is not a patron of his resort. He has continually blocked all efforts to get this project moving
We feel it is time for the Mayor and Town Council to stand up for what community wants, and not settle for a watered down original plan, appeasing one selfish business owner in the community.
