Send Sand for Shirley

The South Fraser Perimeter Road is a planned 40 km Freeway through farmland and Burns Bog that must be stopped.  As well, over 200 homes will be demolished to make way for this new highway.

440,000 cubic meters of sand has been dredged from the Fraser River and stockpiled on the edge of Burns Bog, at what is known as the Sunbury Stockpile Site. This is just one of many such sites in the region.

Let Transportation Minister Shirley Bond know you think the South Fraser Freeway is a waste of our tax dollars and tell her where you want to see the money invested.   For every signature added to the petition, we commit to sending a scoop of preload sand to Shirley Bond, Minister of Transportation.

Send some preload sand to Shirley and tell her what you would rather see the government spend our tax money on.

Better Transit Not Freeways! Schools Not Freeways!
Affordable Housing Not Freeways! Farms Not Freeways!

Thank you for signing this petition!  There are many more signatures being collected on paper at community events across BC.

We the undersigned, are sending back the enclosed Pre-Load Sand from the farms and bog lands and homes of Delta and Surrey.  We ask you and the Provincial and Federal governments to cancel the South Fraser Perimeter Road (Freeway) to avoid its many negative impacts:
1. Paving over hundreds of acres of the best farmland in BC.
2. Paving over Burns Bog - the Lungs of the Lower Mainland - and damaging one of the most effective carbon sinks in the Province.
3. Expanding highway capacity which will expand the volume of traffic and increase our greenhouse gas emissions.
4. Committing more billions of dollars to highways when hospitals and schools and transit require these public funds.
Thank you for reading this letter and understanding the concerns we have with the proposed South Fraser Perimeter Freeway and broader Gateway Program.  Please cancel the South Fraser Perimeter Road and invest our tax dollars in the priorities that our citizens have identified.
