We, the undersigned area residents, strongly urge the Arlington County Board to save the Lubber Run Amphitheater and to work aggressively with us to ensure that the Amphitheater's 2010 budget allocation of $10,000 is used for vibrant programming this season. Additionally, we ask the County Board to stop the ongoing deconstruction of the amphitheater facility before any further action is taken to render this historic venue unusable.
As this woodland theater celebrates its 40th anniversary, we urge the Board to preserve the cultural benefits enjoyed by generations of audiences, and performers, throughout Arlington and the entire Washington metropolitan region. The Amphitheater also serves the community as an informal performance space for children, religious and cultural heritage groups. Centrally located and abutting several diverse neighborhoods, it is accessible by foot and public transportation.
At a time when our county's commitment to the arts continues to expand, this petition's signers fully support repair, restoration and renewed programming for Lubber Run Amphitheater to preserve its unique role in the community.
