SAVE BALI DOGS! Help Eliminate the Cruel Treatment of Animals in Indonesia.

Target:
To the Police General, the Government of Indonesia, the Governor of Bali and Minister of Tourism:

Please take a moment to sign an important petition requesting the Indonesian Government to create an effective law against cruelty to dogs.   Every day in Bali dogs are poisoned or stolen, often for meat.  Others are starved, beaten or neglected, but there is no law to protect them. The Bali Animal Welfare Association (BAWA) works proactively to educate children in the correct treatment of companion animals and provides free medical care to street dogs and dogs owned by Balinese including sterilization, ambulance services and a rescue program.  But without effective animal welfare laws, BAWA is handicapped.

We need another 5000 signatures to meet our target.  If you love dogs, please sign this petition and add your voice to ours.  Then send this to as many people as you can.  If you're interested in other ways to help us, please visit http://www.bawabali.com/

As Bali residents and visitors, we are deeply concerned and distressed by the widespread suffering of dogs on the island.  This includes poisoning, theft of dogs, confinement in the hot sun without water, and other horrific cruelties.

This animal suffering causes considerable human suffering too. It is shocking for Balinese and foreign residents to find their pets poisoned and suffering a horrible death. Such events are often also witnessed by tourists who return to their home countries with negative stories of inhumane animal treatment, thereby discouraging family and friends from visiting Bali and, consequently, undermining our important tourism industry.   In addition, food stalls (RW warungs) sell dog meat from pets and street dogs killed by poisoning with potassium cyanide. Such meat can and does cause serious health problems and, potentially, even death in humans.

Many countries throughout the world have, and enforce, comprehensive laws that protect the welfare of animals. It would reflect well on Indonesia if such laws were in place and enforced here.

We therefore urge the development and enforcement of comprehensive laws that prohibit the poisoning of any dogs and the stealing of companion animals, and that prohibit the cruel treatment of animals generally.

Please immediately stop this dog cull. I had planned to visit Bali for Christmas- however given this situation, I will not return until animal rights have been improved. I am also encouraging people I know not to go there for holiday under these circumstances.

My favorite show is Animal Cops because it shows me that somewhere at least, animals are being cared for, if not in Indonesia. Indonesia needs Animal Cruelty laws. If a man is cruel to an animal, he is capable of being cruel to another human being. He might not ever harm a human, but if someone can be cruel to an animal and not feel guilty or pity for the animal, they are potentialy dangerous to mankind as well.

Please give these poor dogs a chance at a real life, it is truly disgusting at the state of some of these dogs. If it were Australia this sort of thing happened, you'd be just about locked up in prison.

How we treat our animals is a sign of our respect and maturity as a nation. I know and love Indonesia, and encourage you to show the world that you care not only about your people and your neighbouring countries, but also about the very visible presence of animals. You can reap love and respect from everyone who visits your wonderful country by acting with compassion to your animals.

I think that the Balinese people are kind and that this goes against their beliefs, please stop these inhumane and cruel tatics. There are many people around the World that would help to treat the rabies issue without killing these poor innocent animals!!!!

I have lived in Indonesia in the past, and am presently visiting on a social visa. I had someone drop an abandoned dog at my residence. I feel bad that I can't care for it. As a dog lover - have had dogs growing up. They give more love in return than most people deserve - and they don't deserve to be mistreated or abandoned. What type of person would mistreat an animal such as this?

I have been a Qualified Veterinary Nurse for 12yrs & have just returned from 6months in Africa. Whilst there, I visited friends who ran an animal welfare charity. Some of these animals were euthanased, but with dignity & compassion. I have seen at first hand how difficult it is in 3rd world countries due to funding, resources & circumstances, but there are much more humane ways of dealing with these problems cost effectively.

After being to BALI and other Indonesian countries I have been extremely saddened by the treatment of so called man's best friend we would not treat our best friend the way they are treated in BALI, maybe if a law was passed that all dogs needed to be desexed then maybe we they would not have as many dogs and pups roaming the streets and villages. It is upsetting to all, not only the tourists, but people who care for all animals to see such horrors inflicted on such defenseless beings.

On my recent visit to Bali I was appalled to see the treatment and neglect of the dogs. Bali is such an incredible country with beautiful people that would benefit from learning to care for their dogs. Having grown up with pets I realised the importance of learning to treat these animals with respect. I hope that on my next return to Bali the new laws are introduced to protect these amazing creatures. I hope other tourists help fight this plight while holidaying by supporting the work of BAWA.

I WAS HORRIFIED WITH THE TREATMENT OF ANIMALS IN BALI ESPECIALLY THE DOGS, AND WILL NOT BE RETURNING TO BALI UNTIL SOMETHING IS DONE TO PROTECT AND CARE FOR THEM... i REALLY DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE HINDU'S IDEA OF KARMA, IF THEY REALLY BELIEVE IN KARMA, THEN THEY REALLY NEED TO UNDERSTAND ANIMAL CRUELTY..... KARMA INCLUDES ALL ANIMALS AND HUMANS...
